3 | 4 - Wake Up Call Presentation by Waushara County Healthy Communities Healthy Youth Committee
17:00 -20:30 December 4, 2017 Monday, December 4th, Wake Up Call Presentation. The Waushara County Healthy Communities Healthy Youth Committee invites all adults, 21 and over, to join them on December 4th from 5-8:30pm at the WWII Memorial Building for an eye-opening presentation learning about substance abuse and the part it plays in the lives of our children and grandchildren. Wake Up Call is a life-size exhibit of a teen’s bedroom with more than 20 “red flags” that can signal drug or alcohol use. The Wake Up Call bedroom identifies spots where teens may hide drugs, household items that can be used as drug paraphernalia and ways teens try to cover up drug and alcohol use. The goal of this presentation is to educate parents and other adults who are influential in the lives of youth so they know what seemingly innocent items can actually be an indication of substance abuse. In addition to learning about the various hiding spots and items that may indicate use, audience members will learn about the signs and symptoms associated with alcohol and drug abuse, as well as strategies that can help reduce the chances of substance abuse. The Sherriff’s Department K-9 Unit will do a presentation. There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions and get a closer look at the items located in the bedroom. For questions or to register, please contact Mary LaBlanc at 920-787-6600 or at marykay.lablanc@co.waushara.wi.us

| 11 - CAP Services Seeks Volunteers for Waushara County Tax Program Planning
All day December 11, 2017 CAP Services Seeks Volunteers for Waushara County Tax Program Planning for the upcoming income tax filing season is underway and CAP Services is seeking volunteers to prepare tax returns and provide customer support. Since 2007, CAP Services has provided free tax preparation to low-income families in Waushara County through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. During the 2017 filing season, volunteers helped 212 households in Waushara County secure more than $216,000 in income tax refunds. With an average cost of $160 per paid tax return, these volunteers also saved families more than $33,000 in fees in 2017. CAP anticipates an increased demand for its services in 2018 and will need additional volunteers to meet the need. Individuals can get involved through a weekly commitment to conduct intake activities or prepare taxes, or through an occasional – once or twice a month – commitment to offer interpretation services. No previous experience is needed. CAP will provide in-person and online training free of charge to all interested volunteers beginning mid-December. The tax site operates from late January to mid-April. Additionally, volunteers can access CAP’s tax filing software to prepare their own returns as well as returns for friends and family, free of charge. CAP will offer free tax preparation services at the CAPsell Center in Wautoma. If you are interested in volunteering, visit the CAP Services website at capservices.org/vita, or contact Connie Henn at chenn@capmail.org or 920-647-0978.
