Art Exhibit by Andi Rogers on Display through June at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (May 01, 2024)—Green Lake’s historic Thrasher Opera House will host an exhibit by artist Andi Rogers from May 1 through June 30, 2024. The exhibit can be viewed M-F 10-4; for after-hours visits, call 920.294.4279 to schedule a time.

Andi Rogers started painting with watercolors in the early months of 2022. All it took was one introduction to this unpredictable medium that uses water-soluble pigments to create a wide range of effects on cotton paper. This one encounter ignited her love for watercolor, which she never knew existed. Andi loves to explore various watercolor techniques as she develops her artistic style and identity with a brush. ‘I’ve never considered myself any sort of artist. Throughout my life, crafts and fiber arts have been the focus. Watercolor has provided for me a challenge and Zen that I find so satisfying. It’s such a delight to watch a painting develop… layer after layer.’ Born in Racine, WI, Andi is 48 years old and a 25-year resident of nearby Berlin. She invites you to view her pieces and follow the story that will lead you through her short but fulfilling journey in watercolor. She also encourages everyone to explore new things. ‘If I can learn new things, so can you!’

This exhibit can be viewed M-F 10-4; for after-hour visits, call 920.294.4279 to schedule a time.

Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House—a charming, intimate, friendly venue with excellent acoustics. It was built in 1910 and restored in 1997, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. Seats 200.  For more information, please visit www.thrasheroperahouse.com

Roots Band “Dig Deep” Returns to Thrasher Opera House on May 03

Green Lake, Wis. (April 01, 2024) – Midwest roots band Dig Deep will return to Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, May 03 at 7:30 p.m.  Formed in 2015 in the dead center of the thriving Midwest roots music scene in Stevens Point, WI, the four members of Dig Deep drew inspiration from their shared appreciation for traditional bluegrass and country music, their love of rock and roll, and their combined decades of hard gigging in the punk/metal scenes, local bars and roadhouses, and regional festivals.

Three releases and hundreds of shows later, they have firmly established themselves as an utterly unique and powerful force in the roots world.  Milwaukee Record said, “These guys are like the bluegrass equivalent of the “Dogs Playing Poker” painting. It’s casual but still professional, and friendly, but also very metal.”

With a body of work that showcases their vision, craft, heart, and clout as songwriters and instrumentalists, Dig Deep has earned a reputation for their well-honed and hard-edged sound that goes far beyond bluegrass, as well as their blistering and boisterous live performances that give audiences much more than a string band show.

Opening the night for Dig Deep will be Sharin’ Barrels, a unique acoustic group playing a vibrant mix of bluegrass & modern psychedelia.

This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Tickets for Dig Deep with Sharin’ Barrels’ performance on May 03 at 7:30 p.m. are $25 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

Ripon Public Library Renovation and Fundraising Efforts Continue

Ripon, WI – The Ripon Public Library is proud of the community support that has been received for its exciting renovation project, titled “Thinking Outside The Books”. There are exciting plans to transform the entire library campus into a dynamic destination location offering indoor, outdoor, and creek-side features that will put our city and library on the map!

The board has recently learned of some important prioritized maintenance items that need proper attention due to the age of the physical building. Having a physical space that operates optimally and safely is of utmost importance to both library staff and the entire board of trustees. Dedicating resources to these prioritized maintenance items has caused a slight delay in our fundraising efforts.  We are working through a timeline and plan for making these improvements and dovetailing them with the renovation plan.  Meanwhile, the library is in the process of investigating and applying for grants that would facilitate necessary improvements as well as the renovation.

It is of utmost importance to the entire library – staff and trustees alike – to do right by our donors, who have so generously and enthusiastically supported the Library on this fundraising journey. We hold to these following commitments as the foundation of the renovation:

    1. Continually act as a welcoming, vital community hub that improves and prioritizes equal access to all.
    2. Actively investigate new avenues for adding value and services.
    3. Proudly evolve by anticipating the needs of our ever-changing community.

Having a facilities master plan which folds into the existing strategic plan and renovation plan will inform the exciting changes on the horizon for the Ripon Public Library. The board thanks you for your continued support of the Ripon Public Library.

To contribute, please visit https://riponlibrary.org/renovation/ or send a check, made out to “Oshkosh Area Community Foundation” with “Ripon Renovation” on the memo line, to Ripon Public Library, 120 Jefferson Street, Ripon, WI 54971.

For more information, contact Desiree Bongers at 748-6160, or director@riponlibrary.org.

The Music of Jerry Garcia Celebrated by Deadgrass at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (April 08, 2024)—String band Deadgrass will play Green Lake, Wisconsin’s Thrasher Opera House on Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy that Deadgrass celebrates and interprets Jerry Garcia’s music, drawing from Old & in the Way, JGB, Jerry’s Jug Band days, and The Grateful Dead.

Matt Turk and C Lanzbom joined forces to form Deadgrass, a string band adventure through Jerry Garcia’s musical world. Bassist Dave Richards, banjo player Boo Reiners, and fiddler Kensuke Shoji complete this fine group of seasoned pros exploring the life works of Jerry Garcia on the instruments that first inspired him. “We interpret Jerry’s catalog and make it our own,” said Matt Turk, co-founder of Deadgrass. “We’re not a tribute band. We’re a group of musicians who bring bluegrass/folk/rock/jazz/jam/Americana and more to create our own interpretation of this incredible American music.”

The Deadgrass performance is sponsored by gold sponsors Michael and Aileen Ellis. It is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for Deadgrass on May 17 at 7:30 p.m. are $27 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

“Blue Ribbons” a play about love, hate, and pie,

    All day
    May 31, 2024

The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) presents the world premiere of the original stage comedy, “Blue Ribbons;” a play about love, hate, and pie,

written by Thomas Bakken, May 31st through June 2nd.

Pies, family, and more pies. What could be better than that? Why, winning the coveted blue ribbon at the annual town fair, obviously. For the last 20 years, Anne Cross and Deloris Doyle have done exactly that.

It is now the twenty-first year of their not-so-friendly competition, and the two women stand tied with ten wins apiece. Their feud has become the stuff of town legend. Yet, their antics continue to take a toll on their families and community at large.

Now, as Anne and Deloris square off for this year’s contest, the eccentric pie judges, scheming town board members and hapless families all become entangled in one last battle for the blue ribbon.

Performances are Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st at 7 pm, and Sunday, June 2nd at 2 pm, in the Ripon High School auditorium, 850 Tiger Drive. Doors open 30 minutes before the performance. There will be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle during intermission to support the Ripon Area Community Theatre.

General Admission is $10, ages 6-12 is $5 and ages 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door. To order online, visit:  https://www.hometowntickets.com/events/blue-ribbons?p=d728eiwd02s
