PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 24, 2025 CONTACT: Jason Mansmith 920.294.4279 jason@thrasheroperahouse.com “MYSTICSIPPI” STYLE FEATURING HARRY MANX AT THRASHER OPERA HOUSE Green Lake, Wis. (March 24, 2025) – Harry Manx, a prolific musician blending Indian folk melodies, slide guitar blues, gospel influences, and compelling grooves—making him a standout performer will play Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin on Thursday, May 01, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $35 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com. Harry Manx has been called an “essential link” between East and West, blending blues traditions with the depth of classical Indian ragas. Born on the Isle of Man and raised in Canada, he honed his craft busking across Europe, Japan, India, and Brazil before embarking on a five-year apprenticeship with Grammy-winning Rajasthani musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Bhatt gifted him the Mohan Veena, a 20-string sitar-guitar hybrid, which became central to his hypnotic, East-meets-West sound. Manx has released nine albums in eight years, earning seven Maple Blues Awards, five Juno nominations, and worldwide acclaim. His solo performances, featuring the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box, and banjo, pull audiences into “the Harry Zone” with warm vocals and haunting melodies. Describing his music as a bridge between the meditative nature of Indian ragas and the celebratory energy of Western blues, Manx’s unique “mysticssippi” style continues to captivate listeners, as Bruce Springsteen once noted, “I feel like I learned something new.” Adams Rib of Green Lake sponsors the show. This event is supported in part by grants from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the Green Bay Packers Foundation, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House. Built in 1910, restored in 1997, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is a charming, intimate, and friendly venue with excellent acoustics, seating two hundred. (April 28, 2025) – Join us as we continue our Film Series at the historic Thrasher Opera House, where stories come alive on the big screen! On Thursday, May 29th we will feature The Low – Phe Life by Kurt Sensenbrenner. The Low-Phe Life is an animated-documentary-comedy series about living with PKU—a rare metabolic disorder. PKU or phenylketonuria inhibits a person’s ability to break down protein. People with PKU, like Kurt Sensenbrenner the series’ director, must adhere to a strict low protein diet of fruits and vegetables, and drink a supplemental formula multiple times a day for their entire life to avoid serious neurological and physical side effects. For reference a non-PKU person consumes about sixty grams of protein per day, Kurt can only have seven. Kurt is a documentary director and producer who happens to have PKU. He started as a freelance camera operator working on various fiction and nonfiction projects for various clients including Comedy Central, Google, NBC, Oxygen, and the New York Times. After directing and producing his first feature documentary “From Mass to the Mountain”—a story of one man’s crusade to protect rainforests and freshwater sheds in neglected Eastern Panama—Kurt turned his focus to documentary full-time. His documentary work can now be seen in film festivals worldwide, on Amazon Prime, and PBS. Kurt has a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Studies and Production from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
