Many family fun festivities happening in Deacon Mills Park and throughout downtown Green Lake! Boat and street parade, duck race, food and beverages, children’s activities, and more! Celebrate America’s birthday in picturesque, Green Lake!

The Ripon Noon Kiwanis wants to take you out to the ballgame this Fourth of July! The Noon Kiwanis Club will be holding their first annual Oddball Softball community softball game on Tuesday, July 4th at Murray Park. The game will be 16” slow-pitch softball, open to participants ages 12 and older; no gloves needed (but allowed). Players may bring their own bats. Appropriate footwear is required (no sandals/flipflops or cleats) to avoid injury.

Registration is $10 per player; and players can note if they’re a signing-up with family or friends; and the Kiwanis will try to place them on the same team (though this can’t be guaranteed).

The Kiwanis will also be selling concessions during the game, and all proceeds from concessions and participation in the game will benefit the All-Inclusive Playground Project at Riggs County Park.

New Summer/Fall Season at Thrasher Opera House Released 

Green Lake, Wis. (May 19, 2023) – An extensive mix of entertainers will perform at Thrasher Opera House this summer and fall.  With a blend of past performers and new artists to debut at Thrasher, we are excited to welcome our guests to Summer/Fall Season.  Thrasher Opera House Executive Director Rachael Avery says, “We’re looking forward to a fresh, new season that represents a variety of genres, from blues, singer/songwriters, rock n’ roll, jazz, and everything in between. Announcing Large Print Wonderbooks

Ripon WI – Ripon Public Library is excited to announce the addition of Large Print chapter books for youth in the Wonderbook format – a book that offers print and audio all-in-one! This new collection is made possible with generous funding from a Kiwanis Children’s Fund grant, which was obtained as the President’s Project for Ripon Noon Kiwanis president, Gary Scholtens, and the Mildred M. and Edward W. Baar Education Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation with Webster Foundation facilitation. These funding organizations have exemplified their commitment to children and education with their generous donations.

Audio + Print Supports Literacy

The library has been circulating Wonderbooks – picture, emergent reader, and chapter books – for youth since 2020 with enormous success! These self-contained units circulate like a print book and are extremely popular with children, parents, and educators for their appeal as well as their literacy building capabilities. Data consistently confirms that pairing print with audio results in literacy skill gains such as comprehension and decoding, while students report significant increases in their enjoyment of, and confidence in, reading.

Large Print Supports Literacy

Large print format offers benefits such as a larger font size, enhanced spacing between letters, words, and sentences, clearer contrast between text and background, and fewer words and lines per page. After a 2020 study, “Advancing Literacy with Large Print,” conducted by Project Tomorrow and Thorndike Press, Dr. Julie Evans stated, “Two things made this study particularly significant. First, the enthusiasm of the students and teachers for large print was unparalleled. Second, the academic results of the study indicate that this is a very viable literacy intervention resource that every educator should investigate

more fully.” The study also found that large print improved students’ confidence and enjoyment when reading and measurably increased their literacy skills.

A Powerful Combo – Large Print + Audio!

Combining the benefits of large print with the benefits of audio creates a powerful new tool for all educators and readers! This unique combination will be especially helpful to striving readers who may face literacy challenges due to attention deficit disorder, dyslexia, other visual challenges, or being an English Language learner.

The Ripon Public Library is grateful for Gary Scholten’s initiative and belief in the importance of this project, as well as the generosity of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, and the Mildred M. and Edward W. Baar Education Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community.

WILD WEDNESDAY WONDERS | WEDNESDAYS JULY 12-26 @ 4 PM | These weekly events offer exploration and discovery for all ages.

July 12 – Rondini Magic Show | The remarkable Rondini will perform a magic show of epic proportions! Bring your childlike wonder and prepare to be wowed.

July 19–Odyssey of the Mind

Ripon Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind team presents their World Competition skit on the “Most Dramatic Problem Ever,” which follows the trials of a teenage cave person. This newly formed team, under the direction of Julia Manor, entered their first competition in March of this year and successfully advanced to “worlds.” At the World Competition in May they scored 10th overall and their skit ranked 4th for their problem-solving skills. The team will share their incredible journey and winning skit with the audience! Interactive for those who are game.

July 26 – Crafternoon

Enjoy access to a host of craft supplies and inspirational ideas, then craft to your heart’s content!

WENDY & DB CONCERT AT RIPON FEST BARLOW PARK | SAT JULY 8 @ 11:30 AM

Wendy and DB are a 2023 Grammy-nominated kids music duo that knocks it out of the park every time! Specializing in original music created with kids, for kids, Wendy & DB get everyone singing, dancing, and jumping along! Each song, musically and lyrically, encourages imagination and exploration. This concert is funded by Adam’s Rib of Green Lake and Ripon Girl Scout troop 6045.

Enjoy live music on the lawn! Award winning musician, Bill Hill, is a fingerstyle guitarist and vocalist specializing in jazz and popular standards from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Showcasing Songwriters of the Great American Songbook – 1930’s: Today’s concert features performances of memorable songs from that decade, along with some history on the songwriters and the times. While much

attention has been given to the singers, this program focuses on the songwriters and the circumstances surrounding their great accomplishments.

COMMUNITY READING CHALLENGE

Every time you check out reading materials get a sticker to put on the goal poster. Once the poster is complete, the Friends of the Ripon Public Library will contribute $500 toward development of onsite libraries at the Ripon Children’s Learning Center, Ripon Boys & Girls Club, and the Ripon Senior Activity Center.

READ FOR CHAMBER BUCKS

Whether you read a little or a lot, you can win prizes! See staff to register, then each time you check out reading material staff log your participation. Children without library cards may be registered on a caregiver’s account. Challenge runs 6/1/23-8/31/23. The goal is to check out reading materials 3 of 4 weeks each month. Participants who reach GOAL are automatically entered into prize drawings for $10 Chamber certificates. Fifteen winners per month!

COMMUNITY PUZZLES!

Puzzle sheets, available at the library, lead to Ripon locations hosting letter clues. Find all the letters and unscramble to make a phrase that reflects the history of Ripon. Turn in your solved puzzle to be entered into a drawing for Chamber Bucks! Monthly puzzles will be released on June 5, July 3, and July 31. This exciting quest is made possible with support from the Ripon Historical Society and local businesses.

The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) is on the hunt for directors and show submissions for its 2024 season. The RACT typically produces one non-musical stage play and one musical production; along with some type of short production (radio play, murder mystery, one-act, etc.). The community theatre is open to new ideas for shows, as well as new faces for prospective directors.

There is no commitment to direct in order to submit a show for consideration; and interested directors don’t need to have a show in mind to express interest in directing.

Prospective directors should include their background in theatre and any history as a director; along with the name of the show they’re interested in directing, if they have one to submit. Directors must be at least 18 years old. The RACT welcomes directors of all experiences and backgrounds, whether a seasoned community theatre director or a possible first-time director. There are opportunities for new directors to potentially co-direct with or shadow an experienced director.

To make a show suggestion or express interest in directing a future RACT production, email RiponAreaCommunityTheatre@gmail.com. Include your name and your preferred way to be contacted.

Enjoy live music on the lawn! Award winning musician, Bill Hill, is a fingerstyle guitarist and vocalist specializing in jazz and popular standards from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Showcasing Songwriters of the Great American Songbook – 1930’s: Today’s concert features performances of memorable songs from that decade, along with some history on the songwriters and the times. While much

attention has been given to the singers, this program focuses on the songwriters and the circumstances surrounding their great accomplishments.

CONTINUING ENGAGEMENT FOR EVERYONE!

COMMUNITY READING CHALLENGE

Every time you check out reading materials get a sticker to put on the goal poster. Once the poster is complete, the Friends of the Ripon Public Library will contribute $500 toward development of onsite libraries at the Ripon Children’s Learning Center, Ripon Boys & Girls Club, and the Ripon Senior Activity Center.

READ FOR CHAMBER BUCKS

Whether you read a little or a lot, you can win prizes! See staff to register, then each time you check out reading material staff log your participation. Children without library cards may be registered on a caregiver’s account. Challenge runs 6/1/23-8/31/23. The goal is to check out reading materials 3 of 4 weeks each month. Participants who reach GOAL are automatically entered into prize drawings for $10 Chamber certificates. Fifteen winners per month!

COMMUNITY PUZZLES!

Puzzle sheets, available at the library, lead to Ripon locations hosting letter clues. Find all the letters and unscramble to make a phrase that reflects the history of Ripon. Turn in your solved puzzle to be entered into a drawing for Chamber Bucks! Monthly puzzles will be released on June 5, July 3, and July 31. This exciting quest is made possible with support from the Ripon Historical Society and local businesses.

July 12 – Rondini Magic Show | The remarkable Rondini will perform a magic show of epic proportions! Bring your childlike wonder and prepare to be wowed.

July 19–Odyssey of the Mind

Ripon Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind team presents their World Competition skit on the “Most Dramatic Problem Ever,” which follows the trials of a teenage cave person. This newly formed team, under the direction of Julia Manor, entered their first competition in March of this year and successfully advanced to “worlds.” At the World Competition in May they scored 10th overall and their skit ranked 4th for their problem-solving skills. The team will share their incredible journey and winning skit with the audience! Interactive for those who are game.

July 26 – Crafternoon

Enjoy access to a host of craft supplies and inspirational ideas, then craft to your heart’s content!

Wendy and DB are a 2023 Grammy-nominated kids music duo that knocks it out of the park every time! Calling all strategists, team players, and those who like to test their luck—enjoy an evening of tabletop board games! Staff will be on hand to teach and guide players through a variety of entertaining and easy-to-learn games with no experience necessary.

July’s program features Racing Games like Downforce, Camel Up, Unicorn Fever and more! Can’t make it? This recurring adult event (ages 16+) will be held in the Silver Creek Room on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

New Summer/Fall Season at Thrasher Opera House Released 

Green Lake, Wis. (May 19, 2023) – An extensive mix of entertainers will perform at Thrasher Opera House this summer and fall.  With a blend of past performers and new artists to debut at Thrasher, we are excited to welcome our guests to Summer/Fall Season.  Thrasher Opera House Executive Director Rachael Avery says, “We’re looking forward to a fresh, new season that represents a variety of genres, from blues, singer/songwriters, rock n’ roll, jazz, and everything in between. We’ll welcome several new artists for the first time; others are fan favorites who will bring their talents back to the historical stage.”  Tickets will go on sale for all shows on Friday, May 19, at 10:00 a.m.  More information on all shows is available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

A composer, trumpet player and educator based in the Midwest, Dietrich’s newest project, “Paul Dietrich’s 5+4”, features a traditional jazz quintet alongside a string quartet. This concert serves as a CD release party and is co-hosted with the Green Lake Festival of Music.

Cedar Ridge Sessions at Thrasher Opera House July 27-29

Green Lake, Wis. (July 24, 2023) – Due to the forecasted excessive heat and potential for storm activity, Thrasher Opera House has decided to relocate the Cedar Ridge Sessions on July 27-29 to the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake (506 Mill St.) This will allow our performers, guests, and staff to remain safe and comfortable.  If you have a ticket for the July 27-29 Cedar Ridge Sessions, please note that the event will now be held at Thrasher Opera House (506 Mill St.) in Green Lake.

The event will now feature cocktail table-style seating and a dance floor, and guests can purchase cheese trays and champagne to enjoy during the evening.  Guests are still encouraged to bring picnic-style snacks to enjoy.  Please, no carry-in beverages as a bar will be available for guests.

This year’s performers will include folk artists Adrian + Meredith.  Their music embodies the spirit of the human story with a nod to punk, the heart of folk, the flavor of Polka, and a bounce of swing.  Dig Deep joins the bill on Friday.  A hard-driving string band from the heart of Wisconsin with 600+ shows, they have firmly established themselves as an utterly unique and powerful force in the roots world with opener Sharin’ Barrels.  Concluding the event are Minnesota’s Foxgloves, an all-female band, a little bit of country, a little bit of folk, a little bit of classical, and a whole lot of heart.

Dig Deep to Play Cedar Ridge Session in Ripon on July 28

Green Lake, Wis. (July 10, 2023) – Wisconsin’s Dig Deep will play the Cedar Ridge Sessions in Ripon, WI, on Friday, July 28, opening for them will be Sharin’ Barrels at 6:00 p.m.

Formed in 2015 in the dead center of the thriving Midwest roots music scene in Stevens Point, WI, the four members of Dig Deep drew inspiration from their shared appreciation for traditional bluegrass and country music, their love of rock and roll, and their combined decades of hard gigging in the punk/metal scenes, local bars and roadhouses, and regional festivals. Three releases and 600+ shows later, they have firmly established themselves as an utterly unique and powerful force in the roots world. With a body of work that showcases their vision, craft, heart, and clout as songwriters and instrumentalists, Dig Deep has earned a reputation for their well-honed and hard-edged sound that goes far beyond bluegrass, as well as their blistering and boisterous live performances that give audiences much more than a string band show.

Sharin’ Barrels is a unique acoustic quartet playing a vibrant mix of bluegrass & modern psychedelia.

The Cedar Ridge Sessions is a three-day concert series that combines music and nature, offering outdoor shows in the peaceful countryside. Audience members should bring their lawn chairs and any picnic-style snacks they’d like. We ask for no beverage carry-ins, as a bar will be available. Settle in and enjoy the sunset while experiencing live music. Doors open at 5:15; Concert is at 6 p.m.! The show would be moved to Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake in inclement weather.
