  • Packer Backer Campaign
    All day
    August 12, 2022

    Dear Friend,

See flier…Packer Backer Campaign Donation Letter Packer Backer 2022 – 2023

We are excited to announce our 2022 Packer Backer Campaign!  Our goal is to provide nutritious food on the weekends to all children in need throughout Waushara County during the entire 2022/2023 school year!  Items include things like applesauce, granola bars, vegetables, pasta, tuna, chicken, peanut butter and sometimes a special treat.

Every week dedicated volunteers work to prepare each child their own curated bag of goodies.  In complete confidentiality, we partner with the schools to provide special bags for students that have food allergies or food sensitivities.  These bags are then specifically coded so school staff will know which bags contain the special items safe for those children.  Our team of volunteers are not aware which students are in the program.  We are only told how many bags each school needs and how many specialty bags will be required.  Once we deliver the meals to the schools, they discreetly place the food in the children’s backpacks when no children are present.

We simply can’t do what we do without you.  Your support will make a real and lasting impact in the lives of those who might otherwise go hungry through no fault of their own.

Recently, a story was shared about a little girl (we will call her April) who was so excited about the food she received in her backpack she immediately opened it.   As luck would have it, her school mate (we will call him August) saw this and went home and complained to his mom that he didn’t get anything special in his backpack.   His mom explained how the Backpack Nutrition Program works and who benefits from it.  August then asked his mom, “Can I put a sucker in April’s Backpack?  I think she would really like it and I have a lot”.  You see, April struggles to feed herself on the weekends because both her mom and dad work and there is very little food in the house. The easy to prepare foods and added nutrition have been a saving grace for her.  With your help, and August’s help, we’ll be able to keep children like April from going hungry this coming school year.

Every day, your support makes stories like this possible.  Thanks to you, we were able to feed close to 200 children last year! That means we provided over 35,000 items in kids backpacks!

Today we are launching our 2022 Packer Backer Campaign.  Last year the expense of feeding that many children in the program was over $26,000!  With the cost of food going up, our goal is now $30,000 to fund the Backpack Nutrition Program for an entire year!  If we raise that amount, we’ll be able to make a meaningful difference for every child in the program.

We need your help to make that happen.  Simply check the level of impact on the enclosed slip you would like to make and send in your donation.

Your contribution will make a real and lasting difference.  On behalf of the children who will be served by your generosity, thank you!

  • Ripon Area Community Theatre Presents Stepsisters
    19:00 -21:00
    August 12, 2022

The Ripon Area Community Theatre will set the Grimm Brothers’ story straight in a comedy musical retelling of Cinderella from the point of view of the stepsister, with their summer musical production of “Stepsisters,” August 12th and 13th at 7pm and August 14th at 2pm, in the Ripon High School Auditorium.

Written by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, with music by Dennis Poore, “Stepsisters” sees sisters Drew and Bitzy! (“exclamation point”) in jail after their stepsister, Ella, was reunited with her prince to embark on her life happily ever after.  Drew and Bitzy! insist the Grimm brothers got it all wrong and they’re neither wicked, ugly or the bad guys at all, but rather the heroes; and tell all about what really happened.

Featuring a talented cast of 27 children and adults, “Stepsisters” combines a familiar fairytale with humor and charming musical numbers.  “Stepsisters” is appropriate for all ages.  Tickets are $10 per person, 12 years old and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the courtesy counter at Ripon’s Webster’s Marketplace, as well as at the door before each performance.  A 50/50 raffle and bake sale will take place during each performance’s intermission, with proceeds benefiting the community theatre.

The Ripon Area Community Theatre is a sponsored program of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club.  In addition to the 50/50 raffle, the Ripon Noon Kiwanis are holding an advanced sale raffle to benefit the community theatre.  Advance sale raffle tickets are $10 each and will be drawn August 14th at 4:15pm in the high school auditorium, 850 Tiger Dr., following the last performance.  1st prize for the advance sale raffle will be $500; 2nd prize $250; 3rd $100; and 4th prize $50.  Winners do not need to be present at the drawing to win.

Questions regarding the raffle or about RACT productions can be sent to riponareacommunitytheatre@gmail.com.

      19:00 -21:00
      August 13, 2022

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the courtesy counter at Ripon’s Webster’s Marketplace, as well as at the door before each performance.  A 50/50 raffle and bake sale will take place during each performance’s intermission, with proceeds benefiting the community theatre.

Former Riponite Steve Gillespie to Perform at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (August 08, 2022) – Ripon Wisconsin native and comedian Steve Gillespie will perform at the historic Thrasher Opera House on Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m.  A decade into his standup career, Steve Gillespie moved from Minneapolis to LA, made an appearance on Conan, and released his critically acclaimed second album, Alive on State, which reached #1 on the iTunes charts. Before that, this gentleman degenerate spent most of his life traveling the country, regaling audiences with his delightful self-destruction.

Gillespie’s act is a slaphappy balance of aggression and absurdity, coupled with a delightfully pushy persona and coarse yet effective word choice.
