The Nation of Patriots is an all-volunteer-powered nonprofit organization that honors those who protect American freedom by uniting Americans under the U.S. flag, said Bill Sherer, the Nation of Patriots’ founder and executive director. The Patriot Tour for Veterans is the organization’s primary fundraiser and 100% of its proceeds are donated to veterans in need as identified by Veterans Administration facilities and other veterans’ organizations across the country.

“It is critical that we see our mission through. Our administrative costs are covered by corporate sponsorship, so every dollar we raise goes directly to American veterans and their families,” Sherer said. “Nation of Patriots is dedicated to honoring our unique American freedom and those who defend it.”

Nearly $1.5 million has been raised through this grassroots effort since the Nation of Patriots’ inception in 2009.

“It’s a simple thing, passing a flag from one person to another, but on this scale it’s a massive effort that requires unity, passion, and purpose. It truly demonstrates how Americans can work as one towards a common goal. In doing so, we find ourselves standing on common ground free from all of the divisiveness that seems to surround us. This is true patriotism and it’s part of the design,” Sherer said.

Eric Lewis Concert – Black Hawk Folk Society

    Eric Lewis in Concert

Black Hawk Folk Society’s 2022 concert in the park series wraps up with singer/songwriter Eric Lewis Saturday, September 10 in Mt. Morris Town Park, 2 – 4 p.m.  This lovely lakeside park is on County Road G just south of Mt. Morris! (Rain site: Mountain View Community Center.)

Lewis calls Memphis, Tennessee home, but spends much of his life on the road so he can “do what he loves best–make music” for grateful audiences.  His musical roots stretch back at least two generations, to a banjo-toting grandfather and his singer-songwriter mother. Lewis has mastered many acoustic instruments and possesses a great voice. This combo has powered a solid solo career and also makes him a frequent sessions musician. He has performed with Hank Williams III, The Tennessee Boltsmokers, Keith Sykes, Amy LaVere, Jason Petty, and many others.  Closer to home, he performs regularly with Door County’s Katie Dahl. Lewis has received the Premier String Player Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Memphis Chapter, long with other national recognitions.  He also produces for other recording artists and teaches music.

Lewis’ most recent album is titled “Before the Last Time.” It includes originals, as well as songs by John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, some Delta Blues classics, and more. Claudia Schmidt, a Black Hawk favorite, joins him on the album, along with many other much loved talents! To sample Lewis’ music or to learn more about him, visit facebook.com/EricLewisPage.

Again, this is an outdoor concert. Please bring chairs or a blanket and whatever you need to be comfortable outside. October will bring concerts back to the community center, beginning with Claudia Russell and Bruce Kaplan on Saturday, October 8. General admission tickets are $10 for adults; $8, 12 – 18 years. Black Hawk Folk Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit and a completely volunteer-driven organization dedicated to bringing quality live music to central Wisconsin. BHFS thanks all donors and especially the following sponsors whose support makes this Second Saturday concert series, and other events, including educational outreach programs, possible: Lyle and Beth Buettner; Conners/Barrett & Company LLC; Louise Coumbe; The Frey Family Foundation; Patricia Grant; Dave Gunderson; Paul and Betty Hagan; The Dick Hansen Family; Guy and Lauretta Kaplan; Barbara Peterson; and Janet Scalpone. For more information about this concert, to learn how to become a sponsor or how you can support Black Hawk in other ways, please visit blackhawkfolk.org or check out Black Hawk’s Facebook page.

Cutline: Eric Lewis will take the stage at Mt. Morris Town Park on Saturday, September 10. This outdoor concert begins at 2 p.m. and is sponsored by Black Hawk Folk Society. The “Memphis Flyer” describes Lewis as a masterful and authentic musician whether he’s sharing mountain music and folk, the blues, or country. General admission tickets sold at the gate.

Comedian Tim Cavanagh Returns to Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (August 22, 2022) – So, did you hear the one about the high school teacher who walked into a comedy club–and they hired him? That’s where the Tim Cavanagh comedy story begins. Comedian Tim Cavanagh will return to the historic Thrasher House in Green Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday night September 10, at 7:30 p.m.  For a full year, Tim taught teenagers by day. By night, he sang his funny songs in Chicago comedy clubs. “Not surprisingly, I found the biggest difference between the classroom and the nightclub was the drunks–which I generally let the principal handle,” Tim says.

Since leaving the classroom, Tim Cavanagh has brought his comedic songs and inventive stand-up to concert halls, corporations, college campuses, and nightclubs across America. And cruise ships around America. Over the years, he has also made several trips to Canada, where he must convert all his jokes to Celsius and his one degree in philosophy becomes a bone-chilling minus 31.

As for television, Tim has not only appeared on Comedy Central but he was also chosen by the network to do several live performances for their clients and customers. His national appearances on ABC-TV, Showtime, and WGN America have put a face to the voice that so many knew only from the radio.

Tim will be joined by Brian Hicks.  Brian is one of the country’s most sought-after stand-up comics, (no, he is not wanted by the police). However, he has taken the comedy world by storm with his insightful views on what people find funny. The laughs come fast and frequently as he has spent the last 22 years honing his craft at clubs and theaters across the United States Brian specializes in giving every audience a hilarious and singular comedic experience. His unique talent consists of clever material and unparalleled audience interaction, which he combines seamlessly with his lightning-quick wit. Brian has incredible instincts and an undeniable ability to make audiences laugh. Sounds great, right? Of course, it does, Brian wrote it!

The 2022 Summer/Fall Season at Thrasher Opera House is sponsored by Better Homes and Garden Real Estate Special Properties.  This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Green Lake Artist Jennifer Aither’s Paintings at Thrasher through October

Green Lake, Wis. (September 26, 2022) – Jennifer Aither grew up in Green Lake WI. She moved across the country after graduating from college and eventually made her way back to the area. Jenn is a self-taught abstract artist. She has always loved creating art. In fact, had you asked her childhood self what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would have told you, “An artist”. Instead, she became a State Farm Agent, and her art took a back seat until 2019. When asked why she started painting, Aither replied, “One day I picked up a brush and I have not put it down since… I guess I have a lot to say.” Jenn’s art comes from the intersection of her soul and her imagination. She loves to use color, play with shapes, and create vibrant interesting pieces. She also prefers BIG! Her largest pieces to date are 5 ft by 6ft. While Jennifer prefers acrylic paints to oils, (less mess) she recently discovered watercolors and has been, “living in that space”.

Her exhibit will be displayed at the Thrasher Gallery until October 31. The Thrasher gallery is at 510 Mill St., Green Lake, WI, 54941. The gallery is open to the public on weekdays from 10 a.m. – to 4 p.m. and is accessible to concert patrons on event nights.

    Romper Room

Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play the room features a trike & trailer, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, though older kids are welcome. The Romper Room is always open during regular library hours. Drop-ins are welcome, though reserving a specific play time with family and friends assures availability.

    Monday Matinees

Every Monday at 2:00 p.m. enjoy a newly released or classic film on the big screen. For movie title and rating call the library or check the website. Please note there will be no Monday Matinee on May 30th as the Library will be closed for Memorial Day.
