MON FEB 24 | 6:30-7:30 PM | ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is far from an ordinary woman. In fact, she would be the first to assert that there is no such thing as an average woman. Yet, in the early 1960s, her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute holds a notably unscientific perspective on equality—except for one member: Calvin Evans. He is a lonely, brilliant, Nobel-prize nominated grudge-holder who finds himself captivated by—of all things—her intellect. A true spark of chemistry ignites.

However, much like science, life can be unpredictable. A few years later, Elizabeth Zott finds herself a single mother and the unexpected star of America’s most cherished cooking show, Supper at Six. Her unconventional approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon of acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) turns out to be revolutionary. But as her popularity grows, not everyone is pleased. Elizabeth Zott isn’t merely teaching women to cook; she’s challenging them to transform the status quo.

The First Congregational Church of Ripon will hold a blood drive Wednesday, Feb. 26 from noon to 5 p.m. at 220 Ransom Street.
Attendees should call the American Red Cross for an appointment at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor Code: FirstCongregationalRipon. They should bring a photo ID or blood donor card, or two other forms
    of identification.

An estimated 38% of all Americans are eligible to give blood or platelets, but of those, less than 10% actually donate each year. If you are healthy and eligible, please come out to donate. Most donations take about an hour, so folks may book your appointments, roll up their sleeves, and become a part of the life-saving mission of the Red Cross and the First Congregational Church of Ripon. If you don’t know if you are eligible, just show up and find out.
Each pint of blood collected can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of many more. This is a great way to make an impact on people in the Ripon-area community and across the country.

    STATE SEND OFF!

8:35 – community gathering/picture at WHS parking lot

8:45 – convoy “parade” through town

We’re very excited to celebrate our three state qualifiers. As tradition, we will have a “state send off” on tomorrow morning.

Our state qualifiers and coaches will be visiting Riverview and Parkside on Thursday morning to take a picture with youth and middle school wrestlers. Following that, we will have a driving route as our convoy leaves Wautoma. We will be leaving the high school at 8:45 AM on Thursday, and taking the following route:

Exit WHS Parking Lot and go west on River St to Parkside School. We’ll drive past Parkside and wave at any students or staff who choose to greet us outside.

We’ll continue North towards Cty Rd C and then turn right (east) onto Main St.

Our route will continue east on Main St until Division Street, where we will turn to eventually head back West on Division St, past the Waushara County Government Center and Sheriff’s Department.

Our final detour will be at Riverview Elementary to wave and greet any mini Hornets!

From there, the convoy will disperse. Any of our first responder vehicles will return to their stations, and our convoy headed to Madison will depart!

THE SWEET LILLIES AND ADRIAN + MEREDITH AT THRASHER OPERA HOUSE

    19:30 -23:00

THE SWEET LILLIES AND ADRIAN + MEREDITH AT THRASHER OPERA HOUSE

Green Lake, Wis. (January 20, 2025) – The Sweet Lillies along with Adrian + Meredith will perform at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin on Friday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $26 and are available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com.

The Sweet Lillies are a collaborative quartet whose heartfelt, genre-blending sound they call “Progressive Americana” defies easy categorization. Formed by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Julie Gussaroff in 2013, the group comprises Becca Bisque (viola), Dustin Rohleder (guitar), and Jones Maynard (drums). Together, they create powerful narratives in song, blending ethereal harmonies with diverse musical influences, from folk and rock to hip-hop. Their live shows are dynamic, ever-evolving experiences, featuring spontaneous setlists, reimagined songs, and guest performances from celebrated musicians like Sam Bush, George Porter Jr., and Andy Thorn, who described the band as “a genre-bending powerhouse.”

Over the years, the Sweet Lillies have released four albums, including Equality (2023), produced by Grammy-winner Chris Pandolfi, which highlights their evolution and commitment to themes like social justice and self-exploration. Their forthcoming fifth album, Cover to Cover, strips their sound to its core, offering a minimalist homage to songs that resonate deeply with the band. Gussaroff highlights the album’s “starkly exposed beauty,” emphasizing its focus on simplicity and the artistry of the original compositions. Whether through original works or inspired covers, the Sweet Lillies continue to push creative boundaries while staying true to their collective ethos.

Along with The Sweet Lillies will be Adrian + Meredith returning to Thrasher Opera House. Adrian and Meredith, the dynamic duo at the heart of The Adrian and Meredith Band, have grown from their Midwest roots to become a staple of East Nashville’s vibrant music scene and international touring circuits. Along the way, they have formed close bonds with members of iconic acts like Th’ Legendary Shackshakers, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Calexico, and Gogol Bordello—artists who have evolved from heroes to mentors and collaborators.

Their music has carried them across Europe, where they have performed for Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Germany, spreading messages of joy and solidarity. Back in the U.S., they have graced legendary stages like The Grand Ole Opry alongside The War & Treaty, performed at Folk Alliance International, and brought their electrifying energy to Levitt Pavilions nationwide.

The show is being sponsored by Adashun Jones Real Estate, Signature Homes by Adashun Jones.

This event is supported in part by grants from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the Green Bay Packers Foundation, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
