    MON | SEPT 16 | 6:00-7:30 PM | KURT DIETRICH PRESENTATION | ADULTS

Al Jarreau was one of the great singers of the latter 20th and early 21st century. Born in 1940 and raised in central Milwaukee, by the age of four he was singing in public and was soon performing concerts in Milwaukee with his parents and five siblings. At Lincoln High School he starred in the annual Follies shows, while playing basketball, running cross country, and becoming an all-city baseball player. Al attended Ripon College and the University of Iowa before heading to the West Coast, where eventually he won six Grammy awards, in three distinct categories, and became one of the most revered musicians of his generation. This talk, based on Kurt Dietrich’s book Never Givin’ Up:  The Life and Music of Al Jarreau, will follow Jarreau’s life, career, and music, complete with musical examples. Special attention will be paid to his years at Ripon College.

    WED | SEP 18 | 6 PM | ADULT GAME NIGHT | AGES 16+

Calling all strategists, team players, and those who like to test their luck—enjoy an evening of tabletop board games! Staff will be on hand to teach and guide players through a variety of entertaining and easy-to-learn games with no experience necessary. Can’t make it? This recurring adult event (ages 16+) will be held in the Silver Creek Room on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

    THU | SEPT 19 | 6:30 PM | CRAFT CLUB: Pour Painting | AGES 10+ UP

Pour painting, also known as fluid art, is an innovative technique that allows artists to create stunning, abstract masterpieces by pouring assorted colors of paint onto a canvas. This art form is perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike, as it requires no prior experience—just a willingness to experiment and have fun. Register for this event by calling 920.748.6160 or stopping by the library.

SAT SEP 21 AT 10 AM | WHISTLE-STOP WONDERLAND: All Aboard for a Railroading Adventure! | FREE FOR ALL AGES

Don’t miss this joint venture with the Ripon Model Railroad Club (RMRRC)! Visit the library at 10 AM for 30 minutes of rollicking railroad-themed books, stories, and songs. Engineer caps and train whistles add to the magic. At 10:30 AM don your cap, grab your whistle, and puff over to the nearby model railroad club’s impressive installations at 635 W Oshkosh St, Ripon. The Northwest Trail, a former railroad track, connects the locations. Weather permitting, form a human train and enjoy the 10-minute walk from the library to the Ripon Area Model Railroad Club. Driving is an option as well.

The RMRRC boasts an incredible 4,000 square feet of to-scale model railroad installations with sound, light, and computer programming for maximum authenticity. Several sections highlight scenes with book connections including Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown, and Class Action by Clara Bingham based on the landmark class action suit against sexual harassment in the iron mining industry of northern Minnesota.

Dedicated RMRRC members will demonstrate by running the trains and even allow attendees to get behind the controls. Find out what it takes to stay on schedule when picking up a load of lumber and delivering it cross country!

The RMRRC has additional activities and snacks planned! Please note that the club is located on the lower level at 635 W. Oshkosh Street and is currently accessible by stairway only. Grants to repair the elevator are in the works.
