"Blue Ribbons" a play about love, hate, and pie,
The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) presents the world premiere of the original stage comedy, “Blue Ribbons;” a play about love, hate, and pie,
written by Thomas Bakken, May 31st through June 2nd.
Pies, family, and more pies. What could be better than that? Why, winning the coveted blue ribbon at the annual town fair, obviously. For the last 20 years, Anne Cross and Deloris Doyle have done exactly that.
It is now the twenty-first year of their not-so-friendly competition, and the two women stand tied with ten wins apiece. Their feud has become the stuff of town legend. Yet, their antics continue to take a toll on their families and community at large.
Now, as Anne and Deloris square off for this year’s contest, the eccentric pie judges, scheming town board members and hapless families all become entangled in one last battle for the blue ribbon.
Performances are Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st at 7 pm, and Sunday, June 2nd at 2 pm, in the Ripon High School auditorium, 850 Tiger Drive. Doors open 30 minutes before the performance. There will be a bake sale and 50/50 raffle during intermission to support the Ripon Area Community Theatre.
General Admission is $10, ages 6-12 is $5 and ages 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door. To order online, visit: https://www.hometowntickets.com/events/blue-ribbons?p=d728eiwd02s

Pert Near Sandstone to Perform Road to Blue Ox Show at Thrasher Opera House
Green Lake, Wis. (April 22, 2024) – String Band Pert Near Sandstone will stop at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake for their Road To Blue Ox Tour on Saturday, June 01 at 7:30 p.m.
Pert Near Sandstone first gathered around a microphone in a Minneapolis basement to record their debut album more than a decade ago. Since then, they have cemented their status as linchpins of the Midwestern acoustic scene with energized interpretations of the traditional old-time sound. Through constant touring and a variety of festival appearances, such as the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival, as well as sharing bills on the road with the likes of Trampled By Turtles, Del McCoury Band, Sam Bush, and more, the band has tapped their fan base to undertake their most ambitious project to date: co-founding the Blue Ox Music Festival. Debuting in 2015, the festival has become an annual pilgrimage for roots music fans nationwide. It has featured some of the world’s most legendary and up-and-coming artists like Bela Fleck, Tyler Childers, Jerry Douglas, Margo Price, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Shovels & Rope, Justin Townes Earle, The Infamous Stringdusters, Peter Rowan, and more.
This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. It is supported also by The Alfred T. Peck Jr. Foundation.
