Open Auditions for Ripon Area Community Theater (RACT) Summer Musical
“A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop”
The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) is holding open auditions for its summer musical, “A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop,” May 12-13, with auditions in Ripon and Waupun. A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop takes us back to the late 1950’s as Rock & Roll is taking the airwaves by storm. Roberta “Ruby” Lester and her friends are spunky teenagers with dreams of making it big in the music business. But sometimes dreams don’t go as planned. When the local radio station announces that “Rock‘n’Roll has got to go”, the kids take a stand for the music they love.
Open to all actors 12 and older, auditioners should come prepared to sing a vocal audition, and will read portions of scenes. Auditions will be Friday, May 12th, 5-7pm and Saturday, May 13th, 10am-12:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St., Ripon; and Saturday, May 13th, 1:30–3:30 pm in the Carnegie Room at the Waupun Public Library, 123 S. Forest St., Waupun.
Walk-ins welcome or sign up in advance at https://ract.riponnoonkiwanis.org/summe-musical-auditions
Performances will be August 11-13. The RACT production of A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop is produced by special license through Music Theatre International (MTI).
The Ripon Area Community Theatre is a sponsored program of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club.

Bluegrass Hip Hop Pioneers Gangstagrass Return to Thrasher Opera House

Bluegrass Hip Hop Pioneers Gangstagrass Return to Thrasher Opera House
Green Lake, Wis. (April 24, 2023) – Gangstagrass returns to Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Saturday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. Gangstagrass combines great American traditions of bluegrass, hip-hop, and beyond to create a whole new musical genre that is more than the sum of its parts. As the latest album, No Time For Enemies, climbed to #1 on the Billboard bluegrass chart, Americana Highways magazine proclaimed Emmy-nominated Gangstagrass “America’s Band” because they take so much of what’s amazing about this country — ingenuity, creativity, freedom, unity across differences, people’s individual strength and struggles — and distill it into a message of common ground in the form of original songs that have everyone up & dancing! Developed as a studio project 15 years ago by Brooklyn-based producer Rench, Gangstagrass grew into a dynamic and spontaneous live band of Americans — from Omaha, Nebraska; Pensacola, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Washington DC — who have become close friends. Several work hard at other jobs (one teaches computer programming, another works at a comic book shop) to support their passion for making music, and four are dads, with kids ranging in age from baby through starting college. Putting down roots and branching out across never-before-bridged genres, Gangstagrass has delighted crowds and blown minds worldwide, garnering a reputation among fans for dynamism and spontaneity. From SXSW to Grey Fox to the Americana Festival to music festivals abroad, these live performances explode the boundaries between genres generally considered incompatible. Howie Mandel described Gangstagrass as “the recipe that America has been looking for until now” and “what America needs right now!”
This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets for Gangstagrass’ performance on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. are $25 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279
