Open Auditions for Ripon Area Community Theater (RACT) Summer Musical
“A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop”
The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) is holding open auditions for its summer musical, “A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop,” May 12-13, with auditions in Ripon and Waupun. A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop takes us back to the late 1950’s as Rock & Roll is taking the airwaves by storm. Roberta “Ruby” Lester and her friends are spunky teenagers with dreams of making it big in the music business. But sometimes dreams don’t go as planned. When the local radio station announces that “Rock‘n’Roll has got to go”, the kids take a stand for the music they love.
Open to all actors 12 and older, auditioners should come prepared to sing a vocal audition, and will read portions of scenes. Auditions will be Friday, May 12th, 5-7pm and Saturday, May 13th, 10am-12:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St., Ripon; and Saturday, May 13th, 1:30–3:30 pm in the Carnegie Room at the Waupun Public Library, 123 S. Forest St., Waupun.
Walk-ins welcome or sign up in advance at https://ract.riponnoonkiwanis.org/summe-musical-auditions
Performances will be August 11-13. The RACT production of A-Wop Bop A-Loo Bop is produced by special license through Music Theatre International (MTI).
The Ripon Area Community Theatre is a sponsored program of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club.

Singer-Songwriter Iris Dement to Perform at Thrasher Opera House
Green Lake, Wis. (April 24, 2023) – Singer/Songwriter Iris Dement will perform at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. With an inimitable voice, as John Prine described, “like you’ve heard, but not really,” and unforgettable melodies rooted in hymns, gospel, and old country music, she’s simply one of the finest singer-songwriters in America as well as one of our fiercest advocates for human rights.
Her debut record, Infamous Angel, celebrated its 30th anniversary and was recently named one of the “greatest country albums of all time” by Rolling Stone. The two albums that followed, My Life and The Way I Should, were nominated for Grammys. From there, DeMent released three records on her label, Flariella Records, the most recent of which, The Trackless Woods (2015), was hailed as “a quietly powerful triumph” by The Guardian. DeMent’s songs have also been featured in the film (True Grit), on television (The Leftovers), and recorded by numerous artists. Fittingly, she received the Americana Music Trailblazer Award in 2017. Workin’ On A World, her seventh album, shares 13 anthems — love songs, really — to and for our broken inner and outer worlds. The result is a hopeful album — shimmering with brilliant flashes of poignant humor and uplifting tenderness — that speaks the truth “in the way that truth is always hopeful,” she explains.
Singer/songwriter Ana Egge will open the show.
This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, the show is sponsored by the Alfred T. Peck Jr. Fund.
This show is sold out.
