Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, November 10 – November 12

Ripon, WI – The Friends of the Ripon Public Library will hold its semi-annual used book sale from November 10 – November 12 in the basement of the library at 120 Jefferson Street.  Thousands of books have been donated recently and those in the Last Chance Room are priced at 50 cents and as low as 10 cents for children’s books.  Featured displays include Star Trek, Edgar Allan Poe, beading and jewelry making, large print, and coffee table books, as well as jigsaw puzzles.  Last Chance cookbooks are 5/$1 and paperbacks are a quarter.  Expanded Showroom sections include military memoirs, true adventure titles, Christian, clean reads, and women of the west.  There is also a Christmas display plus many Christmas and Hanukkah books for children.  Cash and checks will be accepted along with credit cards for purchases over $10.  The mission of the Friends is to promote and support public resources and community programs at the Ripon Public Library and proceeds from the sale are used to support this mission.  In the past year the Friends have assisted with funding the digital hoopla service, summer reading programs for all ages, monthly take and make kits, support of the renovation project, and more.

    Thursday, November 10: Book Sale open from 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

All are welcome, and members of the Friends will receive $3 off one purchase made during the book sale.  Visit opening night, join the Friends, and enjoy a $3 discount on your purchase.

    Friday, November 11: Book Sale open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Open to everyone looking for a great deal on gently used books.  Come back tomorrow for even more deals!

    Saturday, November 12: Book Sale open 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Library semi-annual used book sale continues with a $3 grocery bag sale in the Last Chance Room – the Showroom is excluded from the bag sale.  This is your last chance to stock up until the next sale!  Because of the large volume of book donations received throughout the year, many of the books which don’t sell will be recycled after the sale and will not be here again.

Black Hawk Folk Society Presents Crystal River Trio

    19:00 -21:00
    November 12, 2022

    Crystal River Trio
Black Hawk Folk Society proudly presents Crystal River Trio in concert Saturday, November 12. The trio will take the Mountain View Community Center stage at 7 p.m. Once they do, be ready to enjoy an evening of Irish ballads, sea shanties, folk, oldies, and more all woven together with humor, trivia and random facts, and maybe a reply to a comment or request from the audience!
Gary Arndt, Peter Bartman, and Jay Smuddle make up the trio and have been performing together for thirty plus years. These self-taught musicians have mastered a dozen or more acoustic instruments, and have shared stages with Judy Collins, The Kingston Trio, and other talented musicians.  Their performances bring joy to folk festivals–large and small, coffee houses and pubs, as well as house concerts.
Gary Arndt co-founded the trio in 1981, inspired by the Clancy Brothers, The Kingston Trio, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. That kind of music “is and always will be a very important and driving force” for us on and off the stage, Arndt has observed. Music continues to inspire the threesome, while they are strongly bonded by their friendship. For more information about Crystal River Trio, please visit crystalrivertrio.com.
Mountain View Community Center is located at N3137 21st Lane, just off Highway 152, south of Mt. Morris. General admission tickets will be sold at the door (adults: $10; 12 and under: free) beginning at 6:30.
Black Hawk Folk Society is a volunteer-driven non-profit dedicated to promoting folk music in Wisconsin’s heartland since 1985. We thank generous donors and the following sponsors who help make these concerts possible: Joe Behlen (in honor of Jane Behlen); Lyle and Beth Buettner; Conners/Barrett & Company, LLC; Louise Coumbe; the Frey Family Foundation; Patricia Grant; Dave Gunderson; Paul & Betty Hagan; the Dick Hansen Family; Guy Kaplan; Barbara Peterson; and Janet Scalpone. For more information about Black Hawk Folk Society, including how to become a donor or sponsor, or about volunteer opportunities, please visit the website at blackhawkfolk.org or check our Facebook site.

Black Hawk Folk Society Fall Into Winter Concert Series-The Crystal River Trio

    19:00 -21:00
    November 12, 2022

Mark your calendars for The Crystal River Trio’s performance at Mountain View on Saturday, November 12, 7 p.m. Gary Arndt, Peter Bartman, and Jay Smudde make up the trio. These talented musicians have been performing together since 1987. Their repertoire includes more than three hundred tunes—Irish ballads, calypso, sea shanties, folk, oldies, you name it. And yes, they take requests from the audience! Fun fact, their name is inspired by the beautiful Crystal River that flows through Waupaca. Check them out at crystalrivertrio.com.
December 10 and January 14 concerts will be on-line—no need to worry about weather and highway conditions! Small Potatoes, a Chicago-based folk duo consisting of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso, will delight December’s virtual audience. These award-winning singer-songwriters are not strangers to Black Hawk folkies, and their performance of everything from Celtic ballads to cowboy tunes will be a wonderful early Christmas gift. Visit smallpotatoesmusic.com for more information.
Bill and Kate Isles will offer a perfect antidote to post-holiday doldrums come January 14. They are talented and versatile musicians, linking their songs with a ready supply of wit and anecdotes all can relate to. Learn more about this national touring duo whose home base is Duluth at billandkateisles.com.
