  • Green Lake Artist Jennifer Aither’s Paintings at Thrasher through October
    All day
    October 3, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 26, 2022 CONTACT: Jason Mansmith 920.294.4279 jason@thrasheroperahouse.com

Green Lake Artist Jennifer Aither’s Paintings at Thrasher through October

Green Lake, Wis. (September 26, 2022) – Jennifer Aither grew up in Green Lake WI. She moved across the country after graduating from college and eventually made her way back to the area. Jenn is a self-taught abstract artist. She has always loved creating art. In fact, had you asked her childhood self what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would have told you, “An artist”. Instead, she became a State Farm Agent, and her art took a back seat until 2019. When asked why she started painting, Aither replied, “One day I picked up a brush and I have not put it down since… I guess I have a lot to say.” Jenn’s art comes from the intersection of her soul and her imagination. She loves to use color, play with shapes, and create vibrant interesting pieces. She also prefers BIG! Her largest pieces to date are 5 ft by 6ft. While Jennifer prefers acrylic paints to oils, (less mess) she recently discovered watercolors and has been, “living in that space”.

Her exhibit will be displayed at the Thrasher Gallery until October 31. The Thrasher gallery is at 510 Mill St., Green Lake, WI, 54941. The gallery is open to the public on weekdays from 10 a.m. – to 4 p.m. and is accessible to concert patrons on event nights.

If you are a visual artist and would like to be considered for an exhibit at the Thrasher gallery, please get in touch with our office at info@thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279, Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House. A charming, intimate, friendly venue with excellent acoustics. Built-in 1910, restored in 1997, and on the National Register of Historic Places. Seats 200. October 3, 2022
    Event Name:Stepping On
    Event Location:Berlin Public Library
    Event Date:09/12/2022 through 10/24/2022
    Start & End Time:2-4pm
Event Details:One in four older adults has a fall each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Wisconsin leads the nation in fall-related deaths for people age 60 and older. But the good news is that falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented. The newly updated Stepping On program, offered through the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) serving Adams, Green Lake, and Waushara Counties has been researched and proven to reduce falls by 50%. The next workshop will start on Monday, September 12 & run every Monday until October 24, 2022 from 2-4pm at the Berlin Public Library, 121 W. Park Ave, Berlin.

In just 7 weekly, 2-hour sessions, Stepping On gives participants strategies for avoiding falls including balance and strength exercises, home safety check suggestions, medication review, and more. Guest experts including a physical therapist, a pharmacist and others visit over the course of the seven sessions providing falls prevention information and strategies for avoiding a fall. The workshop is designed specifically for people who age 60 or older and have fallen and have a fear of falling. Participants can expect to leave with more strength, better balance, and a feeling of confidence and independence.

How to get more details (Website/Phone Number):To register for Stepping On, call Amanda Kutcher with ADRC at (920) 787-6666 or toll-free at 1-877-883-5378.

Seats 200. Event Location:Berlin Public Library
      Event Date:09/12/2022 through 10/24/2022
      Start & End Time:2-4pm
Event Details:One in four older adults has a fall each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Wisconsin leads the nation in fall-related deaths for people age 60 and older.

THE YEAR: 1880 THE PLACE: The Leland Hotel and Saloon, Deadwood, Black Hills, South Dakota

Jimmy Hayward rules this downtrodden, almost forgotten town of Deadwood; once thriving mining town, now an occasional stagecoach stopover for folks moving on to better places, and the Leland is a haven for outlaws (like yourselves) and it houses Madam Iggy’s, the best little bordello in the South Dakota. Consider it just another night at the Leland, only this time it will be more deadly than usual.

    • Black Hawk Folk Society Fall Into Winter Concert Series
      19:00 -21:00
      October 8, 2022

Kaplan backs her up with guitar and mandolin expertise. The two together have been delighting audiences throughout the United States and beyond for twenty plus years, and they have multiple c.d. releases and folk music awards to their credit. To learn more or sample their music, visit claudiarussell.com.
Mark your calendars for The Crystal River Trio’s performance at Mountain View on Saturday, November 12, 7 p.m. Gary Arndt, Peter Bartman, and Jay Smudde make up the trio. These talented musicians have been performing together since 1987. Their repertoire includes more than three hundred tunes—Irish ballads, calypso, sea shanties, folk, oldies, you name it. And yes, they take requests from the audience! Fun fact, their name is inspired by the beautiful Crystal River that flows through Waupaca. Check them out at crystalrivertrio.com.
December 10 and January 14 concerts will be on-line—no need to worry about weather and highway conditions! Small Potatoes, a Chicago-based folk duo consisting of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso, will delight December’s virtual audience. These award-winning singer-songwriters are not strangers to Black Hawk folkies, and their performance of everything from Celtic ballads to cowboy tunes will be a wonderful early Christmas gift. Visit smallpotatoesmusic.com for more information.
Bill and Kate Isles will offer a perfect antidote to post-holiday doldrums come January 14. They are talented and versatile musicians, linking their songs with a ready supply of wit and anecdotes all can relate to. Learn more about this national touring duo whose home base is Duluth at billandkateisles.com.
Mountain View Community Center is located at N3137 21st Lane, just off Highway 152, south of Mt. Morris. General admission tickets are sold at the door (adults: $10; 12 and under: free). Check Black Hawk’s website, blackhawkfolk.org or Facebook page for more information, including links to the on-line concerts in December and January.
Black Hawk Folk Society is a volunteer-driven non-profit dedicated to promoting folk music in Wisconsin’s heartland since 1985. We thank generous donors and the following sponsors who help make these concerts possible: Joe Behlen (in honor of Jane Behlen); Lyle and Beth Buettner; Conners/Barrett & Company, LLC; Louise Coumbe; the Frey Family Foundation; Patricia Grant; Dave Gunderson; Paul & Betty Hagan; the Dick Hansen Family; Guy Kaplan; Barbara Peterson; and Janet Scalpone. For more information about Black Hawk, including how to become a donor or sponsor, or about volunteer opportunities, please visit the website at blackhawkfolk.org.

Event Details:One in four older adults has a fall each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Wisconsin leads the nation in fall-related deaths for people age 60 and older. But the good news is that falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented.

    PRESS RELEASE

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASESeptember 26, 2022

    CONTACT:  Jason Mansmith920.294.4279jason@thrasheroperahouse.com

Wild Ponies Perform at Green Lake’s Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (September 25, 2022) – Nashville roots musicians Wild Ponies will perform on Friday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin.  Wild Ponies have always looked to Southwest Virginia —where bandmates Doug and Telisha Williams were both born and raised — for inspiration. In mountain towns like Galax, old-time American music continues to thrive, supported by a community of fiddlers, flat-pickers, and fans.

Wild Ponies pay tribute to that powerful music and rugged landscape with their most recent release, Galax, a stripped-back album that nods to the band’s history while still pushing forward. Doug and Telisha took some of their favorite musicians from Nashville (Fats Kaplin, Will Kimbrough, Neilson Hubbard, and Audrey Spillman) and met up with revered Old-Time players from Galax, Virginia (Snake Smith, Kyle Dean Smith, and Kilby Spencer). Recorded in the shed behind Doug’s old family farm in the Appalachians (steps away from the site where Doug and Telisha were married), it returns Wild Ponies to their musical and geographic roots.  An album about a town, a country, and a world that’s forever spinning toward something new. An album that redefines Wild Ponies’ sound, while highlighting influences that have always rested just beneath the surface.

Tickets for Wild Ponies performance on Friday, October 14, at 7:30 p.m. are $22 and are available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

The 2022 Fall Season at Thrasher Opera House is sponsored by Better Homes and Garden Real Estate Special Properties.  The Wild Ponies show is sponsored by Aither Insurance and Financial Services.  This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Community Blood Center hosts blood drive at

the WWII Building sponsored by the Wautoma Kiwanis

    Whispering Pines and Rehabilitation

Healthy and eligible community members are encouraged to schedule a donation to help support the transfusion needs of patients.

Wautoma, Wis. (October 31st) – The Community Blood Center (CBC) is hosting a blood drive on Monday, October 31st from 10:00am – 5:00 p.m. at the WWII Building in Wautoma.

There is no substitute for transfused blood, so when a patient is facing cancer treatment, surgical procedures or the uncertainty of a traumatic injury, it’s volunteer donors who help ensure the blood needed is available.

“Blood donors are lifesavers. They selflessly give knowing their blood donation can make a difference in someone’s life, someone they will never meet,” said Kristine Belanger, Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating Officer. “This type of commitment to community and to helping others is powerful.”

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. To meet that need, about 35,000 blood donations are needed across the country every single day. CBC is the sole provider of all blood, platelets and plasma to nearly 30 hospitals throughout the Midwest.

This blood drive is open to the public. Healthy and eligible donors are encouraged to schedule a donation by calling 800-280-4102.
