Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, November 12 – November 14
Ripon, WI – The Friends of the Ripon Public Library will hold its semi-annual used book sale from November 12 – November 14 in the basement of the library at 120 Jefferson Street. Please note that properly worn face coverings are REQUIRED and the number of shoppers allowed in the sale rooms will be limited. No children under the age of 8 allowed. Thousands of books have been donated recently and those in the Last Chance Room are priced at 25 and 50 cents, including a selection of large print books. Many audio books, CDs, DVDs, and trade paperbacks will be offered at steep discounts. The Showroom contains many Christmas-themed books for adults and children as well as a large collection of classical, Christian, country and Christmas CDs and other musical genres. Cash and checks will be accepted – no credit cards. The mission of the Friends is to promote and support public resources and community programs at the Ripon Public Library, and proceeds from the sale are used to support this mission. In the past year the Friends have assisted with funding the adult, teen and children’s summer reading programs, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, books on CD, and more.

The Early Bird Sale will let you browse and purchase any of the books available. The sale will again be open free of charge on Friday and Saturday.

Packer Backer Campaign to Support Backpack Nutrition Program
Waushara County – The Packer Backer campaign is underway in Waushara County. The campaign encourages community members to support packing of backpacks with food for area students by making a donation to the Backpack Nutrition Program.
Prior to the pandemic, 61% of Waushara County’s elementary students in public schools were economically disadvantaged. The Backpack Nutrition Program offers a safety net for economically disadvantaged elementary students in Waushara County. The program provides nutritious snacks and food for students to eat during weekends and school breaks when they don’t have access to the school breakfast and lunch programs. Students qualify for the program if they are eligible for the Federal free/reduced lunch program and register for the program if offered in their school. Non-perishable food items and coupons for fresh food travel home in student’s backpacks each week.
The program began in 2012, serving twenty six students in one elementary school. Last year the program provided meals to 229 students and served four elementary schools.

RIPON BOY SCOUT TROOP #735 WILL BE HOLDING THEIR ANNUAL SCOUTING FOR FOOD DRIVE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH. THE FOOD DRIVE WILL BE HELD IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE FORMER RIPON KMART STORE FROM 9 AM TO 1 PM AND WILL BENEFIT THE TRADED TREASURES FOOD PANTRY. This is a free event to the community. Social distancing will be taking place and all folks attending are encouraged to practice safe techniques in accordance with the state mandates. We will have a Santa available under the gazebo, behind the Coloma Hotel. Please note due to the virus, photos will be available however socially distanced with Santa behind and children in front on a chair. Previous years we had indoor activities, however due to COVID 19 those will be cancelled but the parade will go on.
