BLUES LEGEND TINSLEY ELLIS AT THRASHER OPERA HOUSE

BLUES LEGEND TINSLEY ELLIS AT THRASHER OPERA HOUSE

Green Lake, Wis. (March 17, 2025) – Blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter Tinsley Ellis, will perform music from his first-ever solo acoustic album, Naked Truth on Saturday, April 25th at 7:30 p.m. at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Tickets for the show are $30 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920-294-4279.

Born in Atlanta in 1957 and raised in southern Florida, developed a passion for music early, picking up his first guitar at age seven after seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Influenced by British Invasion bands like The Yardbirds and Cream, as well as Southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, he discovered the blues through their music. A pivotal moment came in 1972 when he saw B.B. King live from the front row and received a broken guitar string from the legend himself—a keepsake he still treasures. By his late teens, Ellis was an accomplished guitarist and moved to Atlanta, where he joined the Alley Cats before co-founding The Heartfixers in 1981. With the band becoming Atlanta’s premier blues act and releasing four albums, Ellis soon set out on a solo career.

This show is sponsored by the Victor F. Braun Foundation, and Mike & Aileen Ellis. This event is supported in part by grants from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the Green Bay Packers Foundation, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Marathon County Historical Society presents History Speaks – The (Original) Charleston

    14:00 -15:00
    April 26, 2025
Event Name:Marathon County Historical Society presents History Speaks – The (Original) Charleston
Event Location:Woodson History Center 410 Mcindoe St Wausau WI 54403
    Event Date:04.26.2025
    Start & End Time:2:00-3:00 pm
Event Details:In 1925, the country was swept up in a new dance called the Charleston. It had debuted to the world on the Broadway stage of the production Runnin’ Wild back in 1923, and as the popular dance made its way to Central Wisconsin, it was being stepped to a particular rhythm. This program will look at the song, “Charleston.” It often accompanied the famous dance during its heyday in the 1920s (and since), but the song also has a larger story as a great jazz standard in its own right.

Join us to learn about the particular history of this song, the surprising number of recordings made of it, and how people back in the 1920s thought about music.

It will be presented by Ben Clark, archivist and historian at the Marathon County Historical Society. Clark wrote his master’s thesis on jazz history and has presented for History Speaks in the past on topics ranging from the story of local public transportation to the Fromm Brothers’ fur farm.

This History Speaks program will be presented live at 2pm, Saturday April 26th at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau). History Speaks is presented in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library and is sponsored by Janke Book Store. This is a free program, no RSVP required.
