True West is a play by celebrated American dramatist Sam Shepard, who played a pivotal role in off-Broadway theatre development. “You sound just like the old man.” “Yeah, well, we all sound alike when we’re sloshed. We just echo each other.” An estranged brother rolls into town, and with him the echoes of a time long past. But who’s the real stranger in this family? Austin, the Ivy league screenwriter, ten years junior to Lee—a housebreaking vagabond just back from the Californian desert. But in this play uncomfortable dualities abound, between and within each character: nature and nurture, art and business, fiction and reality, civilization and the frontier, beginnings and endings, brother and brother.
Rebel Alliance Theatre’s first performance following their rousing LGTBQ program aims to continue developing our staff and craft to continue bringing genuine theatre at an affordable price. All performances take place at First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, 137 Algoma Blvd.
True West will be presented on Friday and Saturday June 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, the 21st and the 22nd. All shows start at 7PM (doors open at 6:30PM). Tickets for True West can be purchased at the door on show nights or online: ko-fi.com/rebelalliancetheatre. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale of $18-25. This show contains mature themes and parental guidance is recommended.
