    Event Name:Overeaters Anonymous Interest Meeting
Event Location:The Parish of Saint Peter, 217 Houston Street, Ripon
    Event Date:02.20.2024
    Start & End Time:7 – 8 PM
Event Details:A meeting could save a life. Is food a problem? OA can help.

Compulsive eaters and those suffering from compulsive food behaviors are invited to a new weekly meeting of Overeaters Anonymous beginning Tuesday, February 20th at 7 PM at the Parish of Saint Peter, 217 Houston Street in Ripon.

Overeaters Anonymous is not a diet club. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.

OA views compulsive overeating as a physical, emotional, and spiritual disease that can be arrested but not cured. Members seek recovery on all three levels by following a Twelve Step program patterned after that of Alcoholics Anonymous. To find out more, go to oa.org

Recovery ministry is a great priority in the Parish of Saint Peter’s mission. Hosting OA meetings extends this mission, keeping the church as a center for healing in the Ripon area.

GRAMMY Winners BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet to Perform at Thrasher

Green Lake, Wis. (January 22, 2024) – For the past 50 years, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. They return to the historic Thrasher Opera House on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.

Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country, and bluegrass, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans to Carnegie Hall, then across the pond to Richard Thompson’s Meltdown Festival in England.  Since becoming the first Cajun band to win a GRAMMY with “L’amour Ou La Folie” (their Traditional Folk Album – 1998) and then a second Grammy in 2010, “Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival,” BeauSoleil has garnered many accolades, including twelve GRAMMY nominations.

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet’s performance is supported by the Arts Midwest Gig fund, the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Tickets for the performance on February 23, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. are $30 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

On Saturday, February 24, at 10 a.m., enjoy a special outreach opportunity with BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet for a questions and answer experience in French.  This outreach will happen at the Caestecker Public Library at 518 Hill St., Green Lake.  This tailored experience invites French students and community members to engage directly with the musicians, explore Cajun music’s profound connection to French culture, and enrich their cultural understanding. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to delve into the vibrant world of BeauSoleil and expand your musical appreciation! This event is free and open to the public. Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House—a charming, intimate, friendly venue with excellent acoustics.
