The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin Honors Kathy Davies with the Keystone Award During National Community Foundation Week

Stevens Point, Wisconsin (Nov 10, 2024) – The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin (Community Foundation) will join in a nationwide celebration, November 12-18, 2019, to recognize the increasingly important role these philanthropic organizations play in fostering local collaboration and innovation to bring community driven ideas to life.

As part of our local celebration, the Community Foundation honored one of its biggest champions, Kathy Davies, of Plover. Kathy received the 2024 Keystone Award at the Community Foundation’s Gala of Gratitude. The award acknowledges her incredible dedication to the Community Foundation and its regional focus on Portage and Waushara Counties. She’s worn many hats over the years, from stepping in as interim executive director to serving as board president and has always been a strong community leader.

Kathy’s story with the Community Foundation began in 1997 when she created the Laura Davies Memorial Scholarship to honor her daughter. Since then, she’s been a driving force, helping launch the Women’s Fund of Portage County and, with her husband Tom, joining the Living Legacy Society. Her passion for helping others also shines in Waushara County philanthropy, where she’s supported projects in her hometown of Wildrose, the Patterson Memorial Library Fund, and the Kiwanis Club of Wild Rose Fund.

The Keystone Award celebrates Kathy’s deep love for our community and her commitment to making it stronger for generations to come. Each year, this award honors people who give their time, energy, and resources to create lasting change, inspired by those who founded the Keystone Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation.

As community foundations support solutions for communities large and small, urban and rural – it is the collective work of these organizations and people like Kathy Davies that will have the most profound impact. In fiscal year 2024, the Community Foundation and its donors directed $1,575,679 in resources to support nonprofits and student scholarships. Since its founding in 1982, the Community Foundation has facilitated over $17 million in giving, advancing its vision of creating thriving communities in Portage and Waushara counties with a strong culture of philanthropy.

For more than a century, community foundations have served as a trusted partner and resource whose effect can be seen in the lives of millions and in the vibrant neighborhoods that continue to thrive through their mission-driven work. Community foundations are independent, public entities that steward philanthropic resources from institutional and individual donors to local nonprofits and represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy.

Community Foundation Week was created in 1989 by former president George H.W. Bush to recognize the work of community foundations throughout America and their collaborative approach to working with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to address community problems.

“I can start you right away. Tomorrow, even. Pays $7.25 an hour.” Will’s new job at the Boise Hobby Lobby doesn’t provide much in terms of security, but what does these days? Union busting, a busted microwave, and a constantly droning company TV that sometimes cuts to gruesome medical footage (quick warning to our audience!) are the least of his worries. Will was called to this Hobby Lobby for a reason, one that will throw a wrench into the ceaseless grind of his coworkers’ lives. But are his intentions for good or is he here because he’s trying to outrun some darkness?
Rebel Alliance Theatre brings another conversation provoking play to their audience at an affordable price. All performances take place at First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, 137 Algoma Blvd.

Experience the Chatham Rabbits at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (September 23, 2024) – Chatham Rabbits – will perform a 506 Session (cocktail style seating for 80) at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m.

There is something warm and instantly familiar about the beloved roots duo, Chatham Rabbits. Partners in music and life, Chatham Rabbits’ Austin and Sarah McCombie blend their personal histories through deft songwriting and a history that comes from building a life together. Leaning into each other’s strengths, their songs present a congenial, collaborative spirit that has captured the pure adoration of fans along the way and earned them praise from Garden & Gun Magazine, American Songwriter, and No Depression. Their artistry hinges on a fervent desire to connect with others through the music that first brought the pair together. Steeped in the regional traditions of their North Carolina home, Chatham Rabbits’ musical pursuits represent a new age of roots music. Chatham Rabbits recorded and released their beloved debut album, All I Want From You in 2019. This set the standard for their sophomore release The Yoke is Easy, The Burden is Full—the centerpiece song “Oxen” was named “Top Folk Song of 2020” by Paste Magazine. Nurtured by central North Carolina’s fertile, influential music scene, Chatham Rabbits’ sound continues to evolve in their expansive third album, If You See Me Riding By (2022), which was simultaneously released with a television series, On the Road with Chatham Rabbits, on PBS-NC. The McCombies ingenuity during the Covid-19 crisis led to the creation of their mobile concert experience, The Stay at Home Tour, which took the duo to 194 neighborhoods in 2020-21. The pair is currently recording their fourth album of poignant original songs and continuing to foster their tight-knit fan community across the US.

The Chatham Rabbits’ performance is sponsored by Michael & Aileen Ellis, Heidel House, Goose Blind, and Sturgeon Spirits. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for The Chatham Rabbit’s performance on November 15 at 7:30 p.m. are $35 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279 – there are only 80 seats available for this show.

A Bright New Boise will be presented Friday and Saturday November 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th. All shows start at 7PM (doors open at 6:30PM). Experience William Elliott Whitmore at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (October 07, 2024) – William Elliott Whitmore will perform a 506 Session at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m.  506 Sessions feature cocktail style seating, with only 80 tickets available.

Born and raised on a small farm in Lee County Iowa, a love of the land has always been an important part of William Elliott Whitmore’s life. An appreciation for nature and its cycles being taught from an early age. That awareness of birth and death is a constant theme in the songwriting, through a lens of hopefulness and acceptance. These things unify us as people, a theme that is often explored in the music. With a banjo, guitar and kick drum, Whitmore seeks to convey these ideas. For over twenty years he has traveled the world, performing everywhere from Rome, Italy to Rome, Georgia. He’s played basements, backyards, festival stages, and Carnegie Hall, and has no plans to stop anytime soon. “Life is hard, nasty, and unforgiving at times”, Whitmore says, “but it’s beautiful too, and music can be a reminder of what we all have in common, a desire to keep putting one foot in front of the other.”

William Elliott Whitmore’s performance is sponsored by Heidel House, Goose Blind, and Sturgeon Spirits. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for William Elliott Whitmore’s performance on November 16 at 7:30 p.m. are $35 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279
