Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
In his memoir, Matthew Perry shares his journey from childhood dreams to stardom, followed by battles with addiction and the road to recovery after a life-threatening health crisis. Before the frequent hospital stays and rehab sessions, there was five-year-old Matthew, who moved from Montreal to Los Angeles, navigating the separation of his parents. At fourteen, he was a nationally ranked tennis player in Canada, and by twenty-four, he landed a sought-after role as a leading cast member in the much-discussed pilot originally titled Friends Like Us… and so much more.
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing is a poignant memoir that is both personal and enlightening—offering a supportive hand to anyone facing the challenges of sobriety. With unwavering honesty, heartfelt moments, and a dose of humor, this is the book fans have eagerly anticipated.

Green Lake, Wis. (August 19, 2024) – Cimarron 615 – will perform at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Cimarron 615’s story goes back to country-rock legends Poco and their late frontman Rusty Young, with whom all five members have musical history. When Young passed in 2021, Blue Élan Records head Kirk Pasich organized a tribute concert and album featuring the musicians who would become Cimarron 615 as the house band. The chemistry between the quintet was so palpable that Pasich offered them a record deal as a standalone touring act. Named for the Poco classic “Rose of Cimarron” and Nashville’s 615 area code, every member of Cimarron 615 is a respected songwriter, accomplished singer, and virtuosic instrumentalist. The band comprises Rick Lonow (Poco, Flying Burrito Brothers), drums/percussion/vocals; Jack Sundrud (Poco, Great Plains), bass/vocals; Michael Webb (Poco, Hank Williams Jr.), keyboards/mandolin/accordion/vocals; and Ronnie Guilbeau (Flying Burrito Brothers, Griffin-Yancey-Guilbeau, Palomino Road), guitars/vocals.
The Cimarron 615’s performance is sponsored by Heidel House, Goose Blind, and Sturgeon Spirits. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tickets for Cimarron 615’s performance on October 4 at 7:30 p.m. are $30 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

Johnson, co-CEO and trustee, Otto Bremer Trust. “The facility will become an anchor for the community, driving economic and social progress through its varied programs.” To fully realize the Otto Bremer Trust gift, the YMCA needs to raise an additional $300,000 in matching community support. Seed money provided by a local family will be put towards the project. Lanie DeMars says, “Our family is proud to support this Waushara County YMCA. Kyle and I have been members in various communities and have seen the incredible impact the Y can have on kids, families and seniors. Our own kids have played youth sports, taken dance, attended early childcare programs, and we’ve had hours of fun shooting hoops or playing at gymnastics open gyms. This new facility in rural Wisconsin is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to give something to this community that we love, and to make a difference to people in our area.” With the initial gift and that from others, the project has already secured nearly $5.6 million on a $10 million goal, including a $500,000 no tax increase investment from the City of Wautoma. The steering committee is also working on new market tax credits that could help toward the project with over $2 million. The public capital campaign hopes to raise the additional $1.5 million necessary to bring this vision to Waushara County. The proposed YMCA in Waushara County aims to serve as a hub for youth development, providing a safe and supportive environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. The Waushara County YMCA will open 40-50 childcare slots, making it easier for families to be employed and easier for local businesses to recruit employees. With a range of programs designed to nurture character development, Contact: Ryan Zieltow Stevens Point Area YMCA 715-952-9300 rzietlow@spymca.org leadership skills, and a sense of community, the YMCA will be a place where children and teens can unlock their full potential. In addition to youth development, the facility will focus on promoting healthy living among residents of all ages. State-of-the-art fitness equipment, group exercise classes, and wellness programs will be tailored to cater to individuals with varying fitness levels and preferences. The YMCA will strive to make health and wellness accessible to everyone in Waushara County, fostering a community-wide commitment to healthier lifestyles. Furthermore, the Waushara County YMCA will uphold the principle of social responsibility, working towards making a positive impact on the community at large. Collaborative efforts with local organizations, outreach programs, and initiatives aimed at addressing pressing community needs will be integral to the YMCA’s mission. The goal is to create a sense of unity and shared responsibility that transcends individual interests. In partnership with the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, the YMCA and community leaders launched a community needs assessment early in 2023. The results of that assessment helped to outline and direct future efforts of impact. “The community needs assessment was critical to aligning the most pressing needs of Waushara County and the ability of the YMCA to serve.” Said Ryan Zietlow, President and CEO, Stevens Point Area YMCA. “We heard from the community the need for support and opportunity of our youth, adults and seniors. Through our work as a YMCA, we look forward to expanding life-changing services to Waushara County.” “We are thrilled about the potential of bringing a YMCA to Waushara County. This facility will not only provide a space for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility but will also serve as a community hub where individuals of all ages can come together to strengthen bonds and build a healthier, more vibrant Waushara County,” said Zietlow. The YMCA and steering committee have begun working with Waushara County to explore the revitalization of the former courthouse location in the heart of Wautoma. This investment in the community will bring both jobs and economic development to the county seat. More details on this effort will be shared when available. To learn more as well as join in and make a tax-deductible contribution in making this community asset a reality visit the website at http://spymca.org/wausharacountyymca. The Stevens Point Area YMCA is in the early stages of planning and the YMCA is also actively seeking community input and support. Please contact Ryan Zietlow, President and CEO Stevens Point Area YMCA to offer input or support toward this vision. ### About the Stevens Point Area YMCA The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. PENNY PEONY PAINTS THE WAY: a Library Renovation Fundraiser! |
SAT NOV 16 at 10 AM – NOON | Paint a trio of holiday ornaments | AGES 13 TO ADULT | REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Local artist Katie Lang is a lifelong library lover! Her wise mother made visiting the local library a mainstay of Katie’s childhood, and Katie is continuing the happy tradition with her children in Ripon. Seeing the potential for the library’s renovation plans to transform the entire library campus into a tourism-worthy destination, Katie is inspired to use her artistic skills to help bring the dream to fruition!
Owner and creator of Penny Peony Designs, Katie is offering a seasonally inspired guided painting class for $30 per project. Proceeds, beyond the cost of materials, support the library’s renovation fund. Through Katie’s kind and expert guidance, the finished projects will be treasured for years!
During this multimedia class, Katie guides participants in creating three unique holiday-themed ornaments; a Christmas tree, snowman, and poinsettia. Each ornament’s base is a wood block which is first covered with holiday-themed paper using decoupage glue. Next, Kaite superbly guides all skill levels through the step-by-step painting process of each design. This project uses acrylic paint, paint brushes, scissors, and decoupage glue and is geared for ages 13 to adult.
Please register and pay via the Penny Peony Designs website.
Although the library was recenlty awarded a 1.985 million dollar grant to offset renovation costs, to meet all the goals fundraising is still underway! Donations to the Ripon Library Renovation Fund can be made online via the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation website by searching for the “Ripon Public Library Renovation Fund.”

Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles
Based on the true story of Jessie Carson—the American librarian who changed the literary landscape of France.
1918: As the Great War rages, Jessie Carson takes a leave of absence from the New York Public Library to work for the American Committee for Devastated France. Founded by millionaire Anne Morgan, this group of international women help rebuild destroyed French communities just miles from the front. Upon arrival, Jessie strives to establish something that the French have never seen—children’s libraries. She turns ambulances into bookmobiles and trains the first French female librarians. Then she disappears.
1987: When NYPL librarian and aspiring writer Wendy Peterson stumbles across a passing reference to Jessie Carson in the archives, she becomes consumed with learning her fate. In her obsessive research, she discovers that she and the elusive librarian have more in common than their work at New York’s famed library, but she has no idea their paths will converge in surprising ways across time. —Amazon

MON | DEC 2 | 6:00-7:30 PM | JOE HATCHER PRESENTATION | ADULTS
Psychedelics first hit American culture in the 1950s and 1960s. Although they were often used recreationally, Psychologists and other mental health professionals lauded their effectiveness in therapy. In the last fifteen years, however, there has been a resurgence of research into the use of psychedelics for the treatment of depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. One notable exception is Ketamine. This talk will give an overview of the history of the current status of the use of psychedelics in therapy and will address both relevant data and important controversies.
