Popular Program ‘Aging Mastery®’ Returns for Spring Session

Seniors looking to make small but impactful daily changes that lead to healthier living outcomes are invited to take part in the Aging Mastery Program®, a free, 6-week workshop sponsored by the Waushara County Department of Aging in conjunction with UW-Extension. This well-attended, on-going program was developed by the National Council on Aging and is held nationwide both in-person and virtually for people 55 and over.

The fundamentals of Aging Mastery® support modest lifestyle changes to empower and support health and longevity. Attendees walk away with skills and tools to achieve personal wellness goals. “Aging Mastery combines health and wellness curriculum with expert local presenters on a variety of topics that have direct links with aging,” says Carolyn Schmidt, Programs Specialist with Waushara County. Topics covered include Financial Fitness, Advance Planning, Falls Prevention, Healthy Eating and Hydration, and Exercise and You.

“One of the benefits of the program is getting to know others who are going through similar experiences as you are. I’ve watched participants walk away having learned tips not only from the materials and speakers, but also from each other. It’s an opportunity to learn and socialize by meeting new people too,” says Schmidt.

This in-person session of Aging Mastery® runs from April 6 – May 11, 2023, Thursdays, from 1:00pm 3:00pm at the Wautoma Library. You do not need to be a Waushara County resident to take part. There is no cost to attend the program which is geared for people 55+. Pre-registration is required by contacting the Department of Aging, (920) 787-0403.

    March is National Reading Month!

The Caramel Crisp Bookstore staff is excited to be partnering with the Winnebago Area Literacy Council in a project to help reading learners.

Beginning March 20th and through the end of March, the Bookstore in Caramel Crisp will be a collection point for new and gently used books, which will then be donated to the Literacy Council for use with their reading learners.

Adult Fiction, Adult Non-fiction and Children’s Books may all be donated. If your book shelves are feeling a bit crowded these days, this is a chance to do a little spring cleaning and help out your neighbors in the process!

Out of respect for the families we will be helping, please make sure that the donated books are clean and in good condition. Please, no encyclopedias, outdated reference books, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books or magazines.

Please bring donated materials during Bookstore hours only – Monday through Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday & Sunday 10 am to 4 pm.Bring items directly to the Bookstore counter – our lovely cafe workers will be very busy serving cafe customers, so we would like to make sure this project is not a burden for them!
