Event Name:Marathon County Historical Society presents History Speaks – Marathon County in the 1950 Census – Insights & Discoveries
Event Location:Woodson History Center 410 Mcindoe St Wausau WI 54403
    Event Date:10.28.2023
    Start & End Time:2:00-3:00 pm
Event Details:Our History Speaks program for October is all about the recently released U.S. Federal Census from 1950. The data from the US Census can reveal a lot of interesting information about a community and its members. The full information collected by the Federal census every decade is only released to the public a full 72 years after it is completed. So the records from the 1950 census were only released in 2022, and the public can now sift through the information to find out more about past stories.

In this presentation, Scott Norrick will reveal his findings and insights from reviewing and analyzing the census data for not only Marathon County, but also how the results compare to other communities. He will provide data and interesting insights on birth locations, top employment industries, countries of origin for those foreign born, or with parents that were foreign born, income levels, education levels, military service, prevalence of farms, unemployment levels and most interesting job titles.

Scott Norrick’s passion is connecting people to their past. With over 30 years of family history research experience, he is familiar with all the latest and time-tested genealogical tools. His areas of expertise include research in the American Midwest along with the immigration to the Midwest from European countries. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and manages his own company Ancestral Past.

This History Speaks program is presented live at 2pm at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau), in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library and sponsored by Janke Book Store.
