    Poverty Simulation

    13:00 -16:00
    October 1, 2023

    Event Name:Poverty Simulation
    Event Location:WWII Building, Wautoma
    Event Date:10.01.2023
Start & End Time:1 PM to 4 PM
Event Details:In 2017, Waushara’s Vision (Formerly Vision 2020) a subcommittee of the Waushara Prevention Council, Inc and several church leaders met to discuss how the church community could assist those living in poverty in Waushara County. The church representatives formed the We ARE In Christ committee. Churches get involved with Advocacy at the local, state and federal level, getting the word out about all the Resources available; collecting Resources such as food, hygiene products, coats etc., and providing Educational events to grow awareness of the existence of poverty locally.

“Don’t judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” The committee is hosting an event called a Poverty Simulation to remind us that we can’t know what it’s like to live in someone else’s reality. This experience is designed to enlighten participants to what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. We ARE In Christ is calling this event: “Love Your Neighbors by Walking Their Path.”

Participants can expect to be immersed into what it is like to live in poverty for a month in four abbreviated “weeks.” Some are newly employed, some are recently deserted by the “breadwinner,” and others are recipients of government assistance. There are two parent families or one parent families. Others are senior citizens living on Social Security or grandparents raising their grandchildren.

It’s true this experience is invaluable to employers, those providing services to people in Waushara County, law enforcement, community organizations, health and emergency providers, community leaders and church communities. But everyone who attends will walk out with a better understanding of poverty issues! CAP Services, Inc. will be facilitating this simulation and also a discussion afterwards. Informational resources will be available from various agencies and programs in Waushara County.

Plan on joining others in the community to experience this free, eye-opening experience on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 1 to 4 at the WWII Building, Wautoma. AND you won’t be missing a Packer Game as it is a bye week!
