Michael Skivington joins the Thrasher Opera House team
Green Lake, Wis. (January 02) – Thrasher Opera House welcomes Michael Skivington to the team as its
new Box Office and Events manager. Martha Janz previously held this role for over 20 years; Janz retired
at the end of 2022. Skivington’s role includes several duties, including ticketing, front-of-house
management, event setup, and volunteer management, and he serves as the primary contact for the
Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Skivington has been in the Green Lake area for almost 30 years. An educator previously, Skivington,
said, “I have a love for music, am a proud supporter of nonprofits, and I love Green Lake, so this position
came together perfectly.” He has also done work with special education students and created a youth
development program in his previous career. Skivington and his wife Carol have two children: Claire, a
University of Wisconsin – Madison Law student, and Spencer, a student at the University of Wisconsin –
Oshkosh.
Michael began working with Thrasher Opera House in December 2022.
Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a
community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House. A charming, intimate,
friendly venue with excellent acoustics. Built-in 1910, restored in 1997, and on the National Register of

Ripon, WI- Ripon Public Library is excited to announce its January lineup of special events for all ages! Thanks to funding from the Friends of the library, events and special offerings are always free. Registration is not required unless noted.
Take and Make Hibernating Bear Craft | STARTING JAN 2 | All Ages Take and Make
Visit the checkout desk to pick up a hibernating bear craft kit! Makers will need their own black marker, scissors, and glue. All other supplies included. Available for all ages while supplies last.
Adult Game Night | WED JAN 18 @ 6:00 PM
Calling all strategists, team players, and those who like to test their luck—enjoy an evening of tabletop board games! A variety of entertaining and easy to learn games will be available with no experience necessary. Staff will be on hand to teach and guide players through each game!
Storytime! |WEDS JAN 18 – FEB 22 @ 10:00 AM | Kids & Caregiver
Welcome to active learning and fun, where early literacy and STEM concepts come to life through stories, music, movement, and enrichment activities. It’s a happy place for kids and caregivers to learn and play. Winter Storytimes focus on dynamic indoor activities to keep kids happy and active. Stay and Play in the Romper Room after Storytime. This active space allows kids to release their excess energy and advance their physical skills all while supporting social connections for adults and children.
No School Movie Madness | THU JAN 19 and FRI JAN 20 @ 10 AM & 2 PM | Kids & Families
Four unique, G or PG-rated, family-friendly movies will grace the library’s big screen. Enjoy stereo sound and popcorn too! Children 9+ may participate unattended, but a parent’s phone # needs to be communicated to staff at the front desk. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Read with a Girl Scout | Mon Jan 23 @ 6-7 PM | Kids & Families
Girl Scout Troop 2570 members, with leader Jessica Wood, share their love of books and reading with kids of all ages. Partner up with a scout who will read favorite books or listen and support striving readers. Whichever combo suits, it’s a win-win toward promoting excitement and confidence in reading while discovering new authors, series, and titles together!
Ongoing Programs
Romper Room
Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play the room features a trike & trailer, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, though older kids are welcome. The Romper Room is always open during regular library hours. Drop-ins are welcome, though reserving a specific play time with family and friends assures availability.
Monday Matinees
Every Monday at 10 am and 2 p.m. enjoy a newly released or classic film on the big screen. Popcorn is served. For movie title and rating call the library or check the website.
