Michael Skivington joins the Thrasher Opera House team
Green Lake, Wis. (January 02) – Thrasher Opera House welcomes Michael Skivington to the team as its new Box Office and Events manager. Martha Janz previously held this role for over 20 years; Janz retired at the end of 2022. Skivington’s role includes several duties, including ticketing, front-of-house management, event setup, and volunteer management, and he serves as the primary contact for the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Skivington has been in the Green Lake area for almost 30 years. An educator previously, Skivington, said, “I have a love for music, am a proud supporter of nonprofits, and I love Green Lake, so this position came together perfectly.” He has also done work with special education students and created a youth development program in his previous career. Skivington and his wife Carol have two children: Claire, a University of Wisconsin – Madison Law student, and Spencer, a student at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.
Michael began working with Thrasher Opera House in December 2022. Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House. A charming, intimate, friendly venue with excellent acoustics. Built-in 1910, restored in 1997, and on the National Register of Historic Places. Seats 200. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil and rock and may collect in your home. Testing your home is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk. The Ripon Area Community Theatre will be holding hearings for their first “Variety on the Vine,” a live performance opportunity during an upcoming Cause of the Mondays fundraiser. The hearings will be Saturday, January 7th from 2-4pm, in the Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church of Ripon, 220 Ransom St. Showcase your performing arts talents for an opportunity to perform during Variety on the Vine.
Hearings are open to all ages and pieces must be appropriate for general audiences. Performance slots will be offered based on your hearing performance. Routines can include music, spoken word or other performing arts. A mic and speaker will be available, and performers should bring any additional equipment they may need. Covers and original music are welcome; poetry, monologues or other spoken word pieces must be original works.
Sign-up in advance for a slot online at https://riponnoonkiwanis.org/RACT-hearings. Performers should sign-up for a hearing slot per performance piece, so each piece can be evaluated during the hearings.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF CENTRAL WISCONSIN ANNOUNCES 2023 MAJOR PROJECT GRANT RECIEPIENT
Stevens Point, Wisconsin (January 5, 2023) – The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin has chosen Mid-State Technical College to receive the 2023 Major Project Grant for their new Project: The AMETA Center.

Black Hawk Folk Society announced its Second Saturday “fall into winter” concert series.
December 10 and January 14 concerts will be on-line—no need to worry about weather and highway conditions! Missoula Children’s Theatre to Perform The Frog Prince at Thrasher
Green Lake, Wis. (December 28, 2022) – The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in each town with a set, lights, costumes, props, make-up, and everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week, and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills, and self-esteem are all characteristics attained through participation in this unique educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
Auditions for the Frog Prince will be held on Monday, January 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. Performances will occur on Saturday, January 21, at 3:00 & 5:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15, and children are $10 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com. The Missoula Children’s Theatre is based in Missoula, Montana, and runs many local programs. These include musical theatre day camps and performing arts classes for local children, a summer residency Performing Arts Camp for students from around the world, and the Missoula Community Theatre, which creates an arena for local talent of all ages to participate in largescale productions and attracts audiences from western Montana. For students interested in a career in the performing arts, MCT has developed Next Step Prep—The Academy for Musical Theatre—providing high school students an affordable opportunity to train and study with wellknown music, dance, and acting professionals to prepare for college. Frog Prince Auditions on January 16 at Thrasher Opera House
Green Lake, Wis. (December 19, 2022) – An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of THE FROG PRINCE Monday, January 16, at Thrasher Opera House from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Those auditioning should arrive by 4:00 p.m. and plan to stay for the entire two hours. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
Among the roles to be cast are three sisters – who also happen to be Princesses, two students to play the lonely Frog, Ollie the Aspen Tree, bumbling Knights, kindly Swamp Things, the well-read Alligator, fancy Flamingos, helpful Ducks, a busy Fly, and the mischievous Venus Fly Traps. All students, grades K-12, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props, and makeup. The MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

Romper Room
Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play the room features a trike & trailer, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, though older kids are welcome. The Romper Room is always open during regular library hours. Drop-ins are welcome, though reserving a specific play time with family and friends assures availability.
Monday Matinees
Every Monday at 10 am and 2 p.m. enjoy a newly released or classic film on the big screen. Popcorn is served. For movie title and rating call the library or check the website.

The program will be presented by Jonathan “Jay” Dick, a Technology and Lands Specialist at the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company. The WVIC have been the caretaker of water in 21 reservoirs focusing on conservation, flood control, low flow augmentation and regulation of a uniform flow in the Wisconsin River.
Born at the turn of the 19th century, Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company traces its roots from the heart of the Northwoods, through the boom of the paper and power industry, to the river valley we know today. Come hear a bit of the WVIC history, and what it takes to “run” the Wisconsin river system.
This History Speaks program is presented live at 2pm at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau), in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library. The presentation will be recorded and available digitally on Facebook and YouTube within a few days of the live program (along with many of our past programs). They are also being played on The Wausau Public Access Channel 980.

Missoula Children’s Theatre to Perform The Frog Prince at Thrasher
Green Lake, Wis. (December 28, 2022) – The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in each town with a set, lights, costumes, props, make-up, and everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week, and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Actor/Directors. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills, and self-esteem are all characteristics attained through participation in this unique educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
Auditions for the Frog Prince will be held on Monday, January 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. Performances will occur on Saturday, January 21, at 3:00 & 5:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15, and children are $10 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com. The Missoula Children’s Theatre is based in Missoula, Montana, and runs many local programs. These include musical theatre day camps and performing arts classes for local children, a summer residency Performing Arts Camp for students from around the world, and the Missoula Community Theatre, which creates an arena for local talent of all ages to participate in largescale productions and attracts audiences from western Montana. The Bookstore at Caramel Crisp presents an Author Chat with Keith Hellwig

The Bookstore at Caramel Crisp is proud to welcome local author Keith Hellwig for an Author Chat on Thursday, January 26th .
Keith Hellwig was born and raised in Omro, and now lives in Fond du Lac. Keith has been in law Enforcement for over 40 years, and has used this huge wealth of experience to inspire and inform his writing.
Keith has worked in State and County Correctional facilities and is a certified Law Enforcement Officer. As a Police Officer he has worked as a Deputy Sheriff, rising to the rank of Lieutenant, and as a Patrol Officer. He retired in March of 2017 from Corrections with the rank of Captain. He continues to work as a Police Office for two rural departments and has received specialized training in hostage negotiations, hostage rescue and cell extractions. Keith has commanded both an institution SWAT team and a Sniper Team.
Keith Hellwig is the author of three books related to Corrections and Police work, “No Place Like Home,” “ Morning Will Come,” and his latest, “In Their Own Words,” stories by and about Correctional Officer from around the world. His book, “Rural Route Wisconsin” is a collection of stories from Keith’s youth and “The Retirement Plan” is his first foray into total fiction.
You can meet Keith and talk with him about his fascinating life and career in the Bookstore at Caramel Crisp on Thursday, January 26th from 5 to 6 pm. All of his books will be available for purchase – this is your chance to get copies signed by the author!

Wisconsin Comedian Mary Mack at Thrasher Opera House
Green Lake, Wis. (January 09, 2023) – Comedian Mary Mack will perform at the historic Thrasher Opera House Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. A hybrid of Minnesota and Wisconsin (with a severe cheese dependency), comedian Mary Mack is a favorite on radio shows and podcasts around the country, including Milwaukee’s WKLH morning show with Dave and Doreen, Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, and The Grand Ole Opry. Mary co-stars as Jesse in the Hulu cartoon Solar Opposites by the creators of Rick and Morty. She’s appeared recently on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and been a part of Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival, HBO’s Andy Kaufman Awards, San Francisco’s Sketchfest, and the Dry Bar comedy series. Mack’s television credits include Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, TBS’ Conan, Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Fox’s Golan the Insatiable, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing and Last Call with Carson Daly. The library will be offering a VHS to DVD (or USB drive) conversion service and a slide/film digitization service from February 1-14. Cost of the service is $0.25 per DVD and $2.50 per flash drive. Ripon, WI- Ripon Public Library is excited to announce its January lineup of special events for all ages! Thanks to funding from the Friends of the library, events and special offerings are always free. Registration is not required unless noted.
Ongoing Programs
Romper Room
Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play the room features a trike & trailer, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, though older kids are welcome. The Romper Room is always open during regular library hours. Drop-ins are welcome, though reserving a specific play time with family and friends assures availability.
Monday Matinees
Every Monday at 10 am and 2 p.m. enjoy a newly released or classic film on the big screen. Popcorn is served. For movie title and rating call the library or check the website.

Coloring sheets, puzzles, games, and crafts will be available. Bring your knitting or a book to read. No registration necessary.
Join us for a low-key, stress-relieving, and self-led afternoon of crafting. Make a mini winter hat garland out of yarn and cardboard tubes. No registration necessary. Craft available until Jan. 28 or while supplies last.
