Ripon Area Community Theatre Presents Stepsisters

    19:00 -21:00
    August 13, 2022

The Ripon Area Community Theatre will set the Grimm Brothers’ story straight in a comedy musical retelling of Cinderella from the point of view of the stepsister, with their summer musical production of “Stepsisters,” August 12th and 13th at 7pm and August 14th at 2pm, in the Ripon High School Auditorium.

Written by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, with music by Dennis Poore, “Stepsisters” sees sisters Drew and Bitzy! (“exclamation point”) in jail after their stepsister, Ella, was reunited with her prince to embark on her life happily ever after.  Drew and Bitzy! insist the Grimm brothers got it all wrong and they’re neither wicked, ugly or the bad guys at all, but rather the heroes; and tell all about what really happened.

Featuring a talented cast of 27 children and adults, “Stepsisters” combines a familiar fairytale with humor and charming musical numbers.  “Stepsisters” is appropriate for all ages.  Tickets are $10 per person, 12 years old and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the courtesy counter at Ripon’s Webster’s Marketplace, as well as at the door before each performance.  A 50/50 raffle and bake sale will take place during each performance’s intermission, with proceeds benefiting the community theatre.

The Ripon Area Community Theatre is a sponsored program of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club.  In addition to the 50/50 raffle, the Ripon Noon Kiwanis are holding an advanced sale raffle to benefit the community theatre.  Advance sale raffle tickets are $10 each and will be drawn August 14th at 4:15pm in the high school auditorium, 850 Tiger Dr., following the last performance.  1st prize for the advance sale raffle will be $500; 2nd prize $250; 3rd $100; and 4th prize $50.  Winners do not need to be present at the drawing to win.

Questions regarding the raffle or about RACT productions can be sent to riponareacommunitytheatre@gmail.com.

Janiva Magness to Play Green Lake’s Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (July 25, 2022) – Grammy-nominated blues, soul, and Americana singer Janiva Magness will play the historic Thrasher Opera House on Saturday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. Magness made a forceful return with the release of Hard to Kill on June 24, which debuted at number six on the Billboard Blues Chart.  The Los Angeles-based musician’s latest release is her first new collection in three years on her label Fathead Records.

The seven-time Blues Music Awards recipient (and the 2009 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, the Blues Foundation’s highest honor) and 2016 Grammy Award nominee will simultaneously release the Fathead audiobook edition of Weeds Like Us, her frank, profoundly moving 2019 memoir.  Los Angeles composer and musician Matt Cartsonis produced.

Since the early ’90s, Magness has built an impressive career in American roots music, brick by hard-earned brick. She has traveled millions of miles, sung on thousands of club and festival stages, and made numerous recordings that have earned accolades and awards. Today, her albums rise to the top of Billboard’s roots music charts and the apex of the Americana and blues radio charts.

The 2022 Summer/Fall Season at Thrasher Opera House is sponsored by Better Homes and Garden Real Estate Special Properties.  Steve’s Quality Painting sponsors the Janiva Magness show.  This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
