‘Caregiver Wellness’ Group Offered in Waushara County

Caregivers in Waushara County are invited to come together for the county’s new-look monthly Caregiver Wellness group beginning in June. Caregiver Wellness participants will identify and define individual pathways to physical, emotional, and holistic wellness comprehensively integrated through conversation, validation, and exploration with other caregivers and group facilitators.

The social group environment will lend to the fostering of community engagement with the intention of promoting and discovering the options, actions, and choices other caregivers have available to achieve comfort and success in their caregiver journey. Caregivers will learn, and share, with one another.

Marty Bechard, Caregiver Coordinator for Waushara County, says Caregiver Wellness group replaces the former Caregiver Support group. “As caregivers, we will talk about a variety of approaches to overall health and wellness while simultaneously providing care for our loved ones. It’s important that caregivers be able to identify available choices and resources when it comes to caring for themselves, at the same time they’re caring for their spouse, parent, other family member, or neighbor.”

The new meeting format also addresses requests from caregivers, combining support with an educational component, all in the same day. “It can be a challenge to find respite on multiple occasions instead of one longer block of time,” says Bechard. “I’m pleased we can offer this new format for our caregivers.”

The first meeting will take place on June 27, 2022, from 11:30am – 12:30pm, at Stahl’s Celebration and Remembrance Center on State Road 21/73 in Wautoma. Pre-registration is required, and respite services are available. There is no fee to attend. Following the meeting, attendees may take a “boxed lunch to go” or remain on-site to enjoy lunch and the topic Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behavior, with speaker Ginny Nyhuis from the Alzheimer’s Association, Wisconsin Chapter. To register, contact Marty, Waushara County Caregiver Support Coordinator, at 920-787-0403 or 1-877-364-5344 toll-free.

Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin Announces New Board Members

Stevens Point, Wisconsin (June 29, 2022) – The Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin announces the election of five new members to its Board of Directors for Fiscal Year 2023 starting July 1, 2022. The newly elected Board members are Marc Bickford, Peder Culver, Karli Klismith, Maureen Lewandowski, and Cindy Weber.

“The Community Foundation is proud to welcome these five individuals to our Board of Directors,” said Dan Kinsella, President of the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin. “They all bring an exceptional level of knowledge and expertise to our Board and will be influential in ensuring that the Foundation continues to build a strong culture of philanthropy in Portage and Waushara Counties.”

Marc Bickford is an attorney at his private practice in Waushara County called Kubasta, Bickford & Lorenson, S.C. where he is heavily involved in estate planning with his clients. He is very involved in the Waushara County community and will bring some great expertise and knowledge to his role on the Foundation Board of Directors.

Peder Culver is a Finance Manager in Human Services for Waushara County. Over the past year, Peder worked with the Community Foundation on establishing a scholarship fund and was impressed with the Foundation of the staff, which was part of the reason he was excited to join the Board of Directors. Peder was recently recognized as the Waushara County Citizen of Year for 2022. He will be a great asset to the Foundation.

Karli Klismith is a Senior Talent Consultant at Kerber Rose. Karli strongly believes in giving back to the community in which we work, play and live. As a Stevens Point native and UWSP grad, the Community Foundation has always impressed her with their core belief of connecting people and resources to enhance Central Wisconsin.

Maureen Lewandowski is the Vice President of Claim Operations at Delta Dental of Wisconsin. Maureen joined the Community Foundation Board of Director because of her desire to give back to the community in which she lives.

Cindy Weber is the President at Pacelli Catholic Schools. She believes in growing and building a community through philanthropic investment and feels that community foundations are a wonderful tool to accomplish that.

Scott Kirby Outdoor Performance in Green Lake

Green Lake, Wis. (June 13, 2022) – Singer, songwriter, guitarist, storyteller, sailor, and road warrior are all words that aptly describe Scott Kirby. Kirby will play on Thursday, June 30, at the Havey Lot (475 Lake Street, Green Lake) at 7:00 p.m., Writing songs for a new CD, performing 150 live shows a year throughout the US and Canada, and holding down the stage at his club—Key West’s Smokin’ Tuna Saloon—keep the barnacles off this modern-day troubadour.

A creative lyricist and accomplished finger-style acoustic guitarist with an expressive voice, Kirby describes himself as a direct descendent of the ’70s singer/songwriter movement.  When it comes to songwriting, Kirby respects authenticity and counts on everyday life and his coastal roots for much of his inspiration. “I don’t wake up every day thinking about writing the next commercial hit,” says Kirby. “Songwriting for me is about telling stories, expressing emotions, and commentary on things I may find funny or absurd.” Over the years, Kirby has shared the stage with some of his favorite artists: Carole King, Jimmy Buffett, Livingston Taylor, Tom Rush, Mac McAnally, Peter Mayer, and others. When not on the road or performing in Key West, Kirby splits his time between Livingston, Montana, and the coast of New Hampshire, where he can often be found sailing, a lifelong passion of this descendent of Newfoundland fishers.

Audience members should bring their own lawn chairs; we ask for no beverage carry-ins, as a bar and cocktails will be available.

This event is generously underwritten by Mike and Jill Havey and Havey Communications.

Tickets for the Scott Kirby performance on June 30 at 7:00 p.m. are $25 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279
