    11:16
    November 11, 2020
For Immediate Release: 10/26/20 Contact: Jan Novak @ 920-787-6600
Packer Backer Campaign to Support Backpack Nutrition Program
Waushara County – The Packer Backer campaign is underway in Waushara County. The campaign encourages community members to support packing of backpacks with food for area students by making a donation to the Backpack Nutrition Program.
Prior to the pandemic, 61% of Waushara County’s elementary students in public schools were economically disadvantaged. The Backpack Nutrition Program offers a safety net for economically disadvantaged elementary students in Waushara County. The program provides nutritious snacks and food for students to eat during weekends and school breaks when they don’t have access to the school breakfast and lunch programs. Students qualify for the program if they are eligible for the Federal free/reduced lunch program and register for the program if offered in their school. Non-perishable food items and coupons for fresh food travel home in student’s backpacks each week.
The program began in 2012, serving twenty six students in one elementary school. Last year the program provided meals to 229 students and served four elementary schools.
Waushara’s Vision Backpack Nutrition Program is a function of the Waushara Prevention Council, Inc. The Packer Backer campaign is not affiliated with the Green Bay Packer organization. All gifts are tax deductible and used to provide food to students in need. To learn more about the program or make a donation contact Jan Novak at 920-787-6600 jan.novak@co.waushara.wi.us .

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, November 12 – November 14

Ripon, WI – The Friends of the Ripon Public Library will hold its semi-annual used book sale from November 12 – November 14 in the basement of the library at 120 Jefferson Street.  Please note that properly worn face coverings are REQUIRED and the number of shoppers allowed in the sale rooms will be limited.  No children under the age of 8 allowed.  Thousands of books have been donated recently and those in the Last Chance Room are priced at 25 and 50 cents, including a selection of large print books.  Many audio books, CDs, DVDs, and trade paperbacks will be offered at steep discounts.  The Showroom contains many Christmas-themed books for adults and children as well as a large collection of classical, Christian, country and Christmas CDs and other musical genres.  Cash and checks will be accepted – no credit cards.  The mission of the Friends is to promote and support public resources and community programs at the Ripon Public Library, and proceeds from the sale are used to support this mission.  In the past year the Friends have assisted with funding the adult, teen and children’s summer reading programs, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, books on CD, and more.

Wednesday, November 11 and Thursday, November 12: Open by appointment

A limited number of appointments are available for any shopper who prefers to have a low contact book sale visit.  Maximum of four people scheduled per time slot.  Contact the library for information.

    Thursday, November 12: Early Bird Sale from 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Get a leg up on the competition by attending the Friends of the Library used book Early Bird Sale!  The opening evening is always free for Friends of the Library members to attend, and for this sale the $3 entrance fee will be waived due to the pandemic though donations are appreciated.  The Early Bird Sale will let you browse and purchase any of the books available.  The sale will again be open free of charge on Friday and Saturday.

    Friday, November 13: Book Sale open from 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Open to anyone looking for a great deal on gently used books.  Come back tomorrow for even more deals!

    Saturday, November 14: Book Sale open 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Library semi-annual used book sale continues with a $3 grocery bag sale in the Last Chance Room – the Showroom is excluded from the bag sale.  This is your last chance to stock up until the next sale!  Because of the large volume of book donations received throughout the year, many of the books which don’t sell will be recycled after the sale and will not be here again.
