    PRESS RELEASE

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJanuary 16, 2023

Singer-Songwriter A.J. Croce Returns to Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (January 16, 2023) – Singer/Songwriter A.J. Croce will perform at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Saturday, February 4, at 7:30 p.m.  Over the past three decades, A.J. Croce has established his reputation as a piano player and serious vocal stylist who pulls from various musical traditions and anti-heroes — part New Orleans, part juke joint, part soul.

Over his ten studio albums, it’s clear that A.J. Croce holds an abiding love for all types of musical genres: Blues, Soul, Pop, Jazz, and Rock n’ Roll. A virtuosic piano player, Croce toured with B.B. King and Ray Charles before age 21. Over his career, he has performed with many musicians, from Willie Nelson to the Neville Brothers, Béla Fleck to Ry Cooder. A.J. has also co-written songs with such formidable tunesmiths as Leon Russell, Dan Penn, Robert Earl Keen, and multi-Grammy winner Gary Nicholson. His albums have all charted and done so on an impressive array of charts: Top 40, Blues, Americana, Jazz, College, and Radio 1. The Nashville-based singer/songwriter has also landed 20 singles on various Top 20 charts. While it’s clear A.J.’s recordings and shows span many genres, his tastes and extended influences reach even further to classical styles and world music styles, from Latin Jazz to music from Africa, Eastern Europe, and India. A.J.’s deep love for music is understandable, considering that his mother, Ingrid, was a singer/songwriter, as was his father, the late Jim Croce.

Croce’s performance is sponsored by Mike & Jeanne Shohoney (Sha-Hone-E) and Adam’s Rib. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for A.J. Croce’s performance on February 04 at 7:30 p.m. are $37 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

Thrasher Opera House’s mission is to promote the arts and the power of live performance, provide a community gathering place, and preserve the historic Thrasher Opera House.  A charming, intimate, friendly venue with excellent acoustics. HillBenders Bring Bluegrass to Thrasher Opera House in February

Green Lake, Wis. (January 23, 2023) – The progressive bluegrass band the HillBenders will return to Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, for their only Wisconsin appearance on their current tour, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Much like your favorite t-shirt, The HillBenders feel good. They don’t follow any old stigmas attached to bluegrass, creating a space to be themselves musically. For over ten years, the five original members have traveled coast to coast and around the world, spreading joy and excitement through music. The HillBenders have played the most elite stages in the festival circuit and the performing arts world. High-energy performances, a diverse catalog, and a slice of humor make way for what appears to be more of a brotherhood than a business – and each audience they play for becomes a part of that family.

Adam’s Rib of Green Lake generously sponsors the HillBenders show. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets for the HillBenders performance on February 11 at 7:30 p.m. are $25 and available at www.thrasheroperahouse.com or by calling 920.294.4279

Janet Planet to Perform A Time for Love at Thrasher Opera House

Green Lake, Wis. (January 30, 2023) – Returning from her recent performance at the London Jazz Festival, WAMI Hall of Famer, Janet Planet performs “A Time for Love” – the beautifully crafted love songs of 5X Grammy-winning composer Johnny Mandel. The performance will be on Friday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. Sit back and relax with someone you love at a romantic table in our newly designed cabaret setting at Thrasher Opera House. Johnny Mandel built upon his early years as a big-band trumpeter and trombonist, emerging as a significant film composer and arranger in Hollywood. He earned a Grammy nomination for his first film score for 1958’s I Want to Live! and took home both an Oscar and Grammy award for his song “The Shadow of Your Smile” from the 1965 film The Sandpiper. He also enjoyed widespread acclaim for composing the song “Suicide Is Painless,” the theme from director Robert Altman’s 1970 film M*A*S*H, and the famous and long-running TV series. Planet is described as a “sultry vocalist with a vast repertoire of jazz, blues, and standards…with some Bob Dylan thrown in for good measure” by New York Magazine; the spirited and vivacious Janet Planet has been self-produced and managed for the majority of her 35-year career. Her determination and creative output continue to take her around the world through her recordings and live performances. Our libraries are growing and refreshing to meet the changing needs of their communities. Check out these upcoming and recent renovation wins.

Brandon Public Library was recently awarded $473,000 toward their expansion project, which currently houses the Brandon Historical Society and museum, and will make the building handicapped accessible. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that more than $255.7 million in congressionally directed spending for Wisconsin projects she supported has been included in the bipartisan Omnibus Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2023.

Ripon Public Library is making strides toward renovations to the inside and outside of their location. Their “Thinking Outside the Books” capital campaign will create refreshed youth spaces, a teen area, and an interactive outdoor space to include a play space, performance stage, and stone steps to Silver Creek.

Ethel Everhard Memorial Library completed interior renovations to their space in 2022, thanks to Village and Library trust funds. Stop in to visit their new space!

Staff met with State Senators and Representatives serving our communities to share the successes and impact our libraries have on citizen. They advocated for continued support from the state to allow us to grow in all that we do to meet the needs of every one of our residents.

  • Accepting Applications for the Alfred T. Peck Grant
    All day
    February 28, 2023

The Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the Alfred T. Peck Grant. The Alfred T. Peck Grant may be awarded to one or multiple applicants totaling $1,000.

A longtime supporter of the Green Lake Chamber, Alfred T. Peck was a resident of Green Lake for many years and owned Alfred’s.  Peck understood the need to have a fund that will support increased tourism development in Green Lake.  Through his planned giving, he made the founding endowment to what is now the Alfred T. Peck Foundation.

The grant aims to assist non-profit, tax-exempt, Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce member organizations with charitable projects and programs that generate tourism to the Green Lake area.

To be funded, project applications must be submitted by March 31, 2023.  The application must describe the project in detail, as well as show how the project will benefit the community, who will be served, and an estimated budget.  Applicable projects will occur between April 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.  An ad-hoc committee of the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will review applications.

The grant application form may be obtained by emailing the Chamber at lisa@visitgreenlake.com, calling 920-294-3231, or visiting the Chamber office at 550 Mill Street, Green Lake, WI.  Applications are due no later than March 31, 2023.
