Please join us for this wonderful event! “Don’t judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” The committee is hosting an event called a Poverty Simulation to remind us that we can’t know what it’s like to live in someone else’s reality. This experience is designed to enlighten participants to what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. We ARE In Christ is calling this event: “Love Your Neighbors by Walking Their Path.” Participants can expect to be immersed into what it is like to live in poverty for a month in four abbreviated “weeks.” Some are newly employed, some are recently deserted by the “breadwinner,” and others are recipients of government assistance. There are two parent families or one parent families. Others are senior citizens living on Social Security or grandparents raising their grandchildren. It’s true this experience is invaluable to employers, those providing services to people in Waushara County, law enforcement, community organizations, health and emergency providers, community leaders and church communities. But everyone who attends will walk out with a better understanding of poverty issues! CAP Services, Inc. will be facilitating this simulation and also a discussion afterwards. Informational resources will be available from various agencies and programs in Waushara County. Plan on joining others in the community to experience this free, eye-opening experience on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 1 to 4 at the WWII Building, Wautoma. AND you won’t be missing a Packer Game as it is a bye week! Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, October 06, at 7:30 p.m. The Small Glories
could almost make you believe in fate, with stage banter striking a unique balance between slapstick
and sermon. They last performed at Thrasher Opera House in August 2019.
The Small Glories are Cara Luft & JD Edwards, a musical tour-de-force partnership planted on the
Canadian Prairies. Thrown together purely by accident for an anniversary show at Winnipeg’s venerable
West End Cultural Centre, The Small Glories could almost make you believe in fate. These veteran
singer-songwriters have a way of making time disappear, rooms shrink, and audiences feel as though
they are right there on the stage with the band. It’s common for listeners to find themselves laughing,
dancing, crying, or caught up in a good old-fashioned sing-along. Their material is welcoming in subject,
folk-pop melody, and instrumentation — songs of love, loss, and environment, delivered with soaring,
interwoven vocals on various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo, guitar, and harmonica. On
record, Luft and Edwards take the musical synergy honed from hundreds of shows together and expand
it into a new soundscape amplified by pounding drums and other textural embellishments, which only
reinforce the magic of their innate chemistry —chemistry labeled the “Lennon-McCartney syndrome,”
by Americana UK, writing, “Some things just work together… to witness a performance by The Small
Glories is a rare opportunity to experience that indefinable quality that creates perfection.”
The Small Glories performance is sponsored by…. This event is supported in part by a grant from the
Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of
Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
