Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Bill Tadych says grant-supported traffic enforcement efforts and education has had an impact on the number of fatal traffic accidents that occur over the years. He points out there was high of 32 in 2003, which saw two accidents that claimed four lives apiece. At that time Sheriff Gary Pucker decided to get proactive and apply for grants for extra enforcement. “Sheriff Pucker at that time took the initiative to really get us involved with getting on board with the grants and these different initiatives that we have continued throughout the tenure of Sheriff Fink and now Sheriff Waldschmidt.” In 2019 Fond du Lac County had 8 traffic deaths compared to 15 in 2018. The county’s average over the last five years has been 11 deaths.
