Ripon High School Student Suspected Of Threat At The High School

10 December 2019 News

An 18-year-old Ripon High School student is facing terrorist threats-evacuating a building and disorderly conduct charges for allegedly making a threat to kill 17 students and a teacher at the school last week. According to the criminal complaint another student had found a message with a list in a bathroom and brought it to the high school office. At the top of list were words to the effect that those on the list were going to be killed. Lillian Cavell is suspected of making the list and is included on it. Police say Cavell and other students on the list were brought to the community room of the school last Wednesday after the threat was found. She was the only one taking video with her phone in that room. Using security camera video investigators learned 22 students had visited that bathroom prior to the note being found. Through writing samples and comparing paper from a binder Cavell had they determined she likely wrote the threat. When interviewed about it Cavell denied doing it and asked why she would want to hurt people on the list they were her friends. If found guilty of the charges; Cavell faces up to 3 years and 9 months in prison and $11,000 in fines.  The threat led to a soft lock down of the school and cancellation of a boys’ basketball game.
