Teen Arrested For Incident At Oshkosh West High School
Special agents of the state’s Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation have arrested a 16-year-old Oshkosh boy in connection with an incident at Oshkosh West High School Tuesday morning. He is being charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide and is being held at the Winnebago County Jail. The boy is accused of stabbing School Resource Officer Michael Wissink who then fired a shot at the boy. In a release to the media Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz said, “The events at Oshkosh West High School on Tuesday 12-3-19 could be considered part of an epidemic, and that as a nation, most of us recognize something needs to change.” Wissink has been with the Oshkosh Police Department for 21 years and has been a school resource officer since 2017.
Blood Donations Not Needed For Injured Oshkosh Police Officer
Oshkosh Police say an officer stabbed at Oshkosh West High School this week is not in need of any blood donations. The department became aware of social media posts asking for donations of blood for Officer Michael Wissink, but they say he doesn’t need them. Instead they encourage those who would like to give blood to contact the American Red Cross, which always has a need for such donations.
Rotary Lights Display Damaged
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt Thursday morning notified Beaver Dam Police that vandals had damaged the Rotary Club’s Christmas lights display at Swan Park. Schmidt chairs the Rotary’s lights committee. Light displays, trees, and a newly created gingerbread house display were damaged or destroyed. About $3,000 in damage was done at the park some with stolen golf carts. It’s the third time in as many years that theft or vandalism has occurred to the Rotary lights display.
Ship Size A Concern
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s concerned about some of the ships that U.S. Navy uses in its fleets. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says aircraft carriers are practical in battles with nations that don’t have intercontinental ballistic missile capability, but is concerned about the nations that do. “I sometimes think in today’s world in an all-out war a lot of out naval ships would be very vulnerable. I don’t think our armed services committee of the Navy has talked about that enough.” He says we put too much confidence in big ships in this era of rockets and he’s concerned about the thousands of crew members on those ships.
Bell Ringers Needed
The Salvation Army on the western end of Fond du Lac County is hoping to raise more than $20,000 in donations this Holiday season. The kettles are put out at businesses in Ripon, Brandon, Fairwater, and Rosendale. Lee Prellwitz of the Salvation Army says you can find them at three locations in Ripon this season. “We do ring at three different locations in Ripon at Market Fresh, Webster’s Marketplace, and we moved this year for years we were at Kmart and this year we moved to Walgreen’s because unfortunately Kmart is closing its doors.” They could use volunteers to ring bells at those locations. If you’re interested in volunteering call Stephanie Sauerbrei at (920)748-5498. Donations help the needy in the community.
No Shave Pays Off
No Shave November paid off for members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department participating in a fundraiser built around growing facial hair during the month. Employees donated $2,770 to grow moustaches and beards. That money in turn will help fund a program in the spring called “Cops and Bobbers.” Through the program deputies will take kids from communities in the county fishing for an afternoon.
