Oshkosh School Resource Officer Involved In Student Shooting Identified

The Oshkosh school resource officer involved in shooting a 16-year-old student at Oshkosh West High School Tuesday has been identified. Police Officer Michael Wissink has been with the Oshkosh Police Department for 21 years and has been a school resource officer since 2017. Wissink allegedly shot the student in his office at the school when the student stabbed him with an “edged weapon.” Officer Wissink and the student were both taken to a local hospital for treatment. The state’s Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
Oshkosh Schools Classes Resume Except At West
Classes resume at all Oshkosh Area School District schools today except Oshkosh West High School. West students will return to class tomorrow, but school staff will report today to prepare for the return of students on Friday. Classes in the district were cancelled yesterday in the wake of an incident at Oshkosh West High School Tuesday where a 16-year-old student stabbed School Resource Officer Michael Wissink. Wissink shot the student once. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
