FDL Man Sentenced For Taking Car From Beaver Dam

A Dodge County judge Wednesday sentenced an 18-year-old Fond du Lac man to two years of probation and ordered him to pay over $2,300 in restitution and court costs for his role in stealing a vehicle from Beaver Dam in September and putting another into Beaver Dam Lake.  Tyler Rodgers record will be expunged if he successfully completes probation. Rodgers and 17-year-old Kaden Solano of North Fond du Lac were caught after a chase with Waupun Police. Two others teens with them at the time were unaware the pickup truck had been stolen. The SUV that was put into Beaver Dam Lake was taken from Fond du Lac. Solano is facing a half dozen charges and his case is still winding its way through Dodge County court. A scheduling conference in his case is scheduled in January.

Clyman Man Gets Prison Time For Threatening Officers And Battery

A 35-year-old Clyman man this week was sentenced to three years in prison, 8 months of extended supervision, and three years of probation for threatening a law enforcement officer and felony battery. Charges stemmed from an incident in the Village of Clyman last November when Darren Kemppainen got drunk and beat up his wife who under terms of probation he was on at the time he was not supposed to have contact with. While officers were escorting him from the apartment he threatened the victim and the officers’ lives and safety. Prosecutors say he has a lengthy history of domestic violence.

Washington County’s Drug Task Force recently made a major drug bust seizing 8.3 pounds of powered cocaine, 128 grams of crack cocaine, 16 hydrocodone pills and 384 grams of marijuana. An additional $300,000 in financial assets made from illegal drug sales in the Germantown and Menomonee Falls area were also seized. The 20-month investigation led to the arrest of 38-year-old Jeremy Erdman of Germantown. During his initial hearing last Thursday he was charged with multiple drug-dealing charges and bond was set at $50,000 cash. Erdman has since asked for a substitution of judge.

Third Round Of Ripon Leaf Collection Beginning

Ripon’s Public Works Department recently completed its second sweep of the city for leaf pickup. The third and final round is starting and DPW officials say they will do what they can to get through that round, which is weather dependent. Trucks may need to be converted for snow removal if an impending storm arises. Safety on the roads takes precedence. Leaves can also be taken to the compost site on Tuesday and Saturdays from 9 am to 3:30 pm.

Getting More Youth Involved In The Hunt

The state Department of Natural Resources would like to get more youth involved in hunting. For the upcoming gun-deer season 3,648 licenses have purchased for children under the age of 9 compared to 2,257 last year. DNR Conservation Warden Bill Hankee says it’s a good mentoring opportunity for experienced hunters. “If there is someone that wants to learn how to hunt and you are an experienced hunter maybe take them along whether they carry a firearm or not even if they are not hunting.” DNR officials say as of last Sunday license sales for the 9-day hunt were running less than 500 behind last year’s total sales of 539,137 licenses. Preliminary license sales totals for the opening weekend will be released on Tuesday.

Dickens Of A Christmas Parade Entries Sought

The Ripon Chamber of Commerce is still taking entrants for a new event associated with the 29th annual Dickens of a Christmas Weekend.  The first ever Dickens Holiday Parade will be held on Friday evening, December 6th, beginning at 6:30 pm in Downtown Ripon.  Ripon Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says they welcome those who would like to participate. “So if you’re a business, if you’re a service group, if you’re an organization, I don’t care a church group whatever. If you can assemble a group and want to be in a parade you can get it done. It doesn’t cost you anything to enter.” They could also use some singing groups for the parade with the theme of Christmas Carols.” A visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus will conclude the parade.  To register call the Ripon Chamber of Commerce at (920) 748-6764 or visit the chamber website.
