Waupun Man Cited For Hitting Garage With SUV
A 27-year-old Waupun man was cited for hit-and-run after going off the road and hitting a garage before fleeing from the scene Sunday evening. Police got a call to 125 North Drummond Street at 8:13 pm. Deputy Chief Jeremy Rasch says roads were slick, but they aren’t sure if that was the cause of the accident that led to extensive damage of the garage. The SUV driver was located a few hours after the accident. The driver was cited for hit-and-run and failing to report an accident.
Beaver Dam Man Charged For Scrap Metal Thefts
A 42-year-old Beaver Dam man is facing a felony theft charge in Dodge County court for allegedly stealing scrap metal from Grande Cheese in Brownsville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled in January.
Having A Plan For Winter Power Outages
Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says whether it’s for severe weather or for a winter blizzard it is always good to have a plan for being without power for several days. “Last year we had that Polar Vortex where people were really stuck in their homes for several days. We were fortunate not to have a lot of power outages, but if there are power outages people need to be able to sustain and be able to take care of themselves.” She says if there is an extended power outage during the winter you should have enough food, water, medication and a way to stay warm for at least three days.
Ask Permission First
A Department of Natural Resources Conservation Warden says he’s seeing more complaints about trespassing on private land during the 9-day gun-deer season. Bill Hankee says it’s becoming much more common. He recommends asking permission ahead of the season to go onto private land in case you shoot a deer and it wanders onto the land trying to escape from you. “I get calls every season from a hunter who shot a deer and it jumped a fence and they didn’t have permission from the neighbor to go after that deer and they are not able to recover that deer because it is a trespassing issue at that point.” He says just being neighborly will help you avoid most situations. The gun-deer season starts this Saturday and runs through December 1st.
Ballweg Bills Passed
The State Assembly recently passed two bills authored by State Representative Joan Ballweg of Markesan. One of the bills will update and modernize the notary process by allowing signatures to be notarized online and remove time and location barriers to receiving authentication. The second bill prohibits manufacturers from surcharging vehicles sold. It levels the playing field and gives auto dealers the ability to negotiate reasonable compensation for warranty work without fear of retaliation.
