After 38 years with the Waupun Police Department, Detective Brian O’Donovan will be retiring on January 3rd. He started out part-time with the Fox Lake Police Department and became a full-time officer with the Beaver Dam Police Department in March of 1981. That December he joined the Waupun Police Department. He worked Patrol and later became the department’s first school liaison officer. In 2009 he became a detective. O’Donovan says he loves his job and will miss it. “It has been a reason for me to get up in the morning and I guess another thing is a lot of people I have dealt with in my lifetime either personally or professionally have said that I don’t like my job I wish I would have had a different one. I have never been able to say that, I love my job.” O’Donovan says people at the police department have been his family for 38 years and even helped him get through the death of a spouse. O’Donovan was born and raised in Waupun and attended school in the city.
