New Berlin Police Chief Used To Head The State Patrol

25 October 2019 News

A former Superintendent of the State Patrol is now the Chief of Police in Berlin. J.D. Lind is a native of Bayfield. He went to the UW-Stout and afterwards taught high school for five years. In 1994 he decided he wanted to change to a career in law enforcement and went through the State Patrol Academy.  He rose up through the ranks during his nearly 25 year career. “I held every rank that the State Patrol has within its organization culminating with my last position I was the Superintendent of the State Patrol which is the head of the agency appointed by Governor Walker in 2016.” Lind retired from the State Patrol in October of 2018. He found out about the Berlin job through Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll.  He says being chief is a breath of fresh air compared to his role heading the State Patrol with 650 employees under him many of whom he didn’t have contact with. The new job lets him get to know people and develop a rapport with them. Lind started that new role with the Berlin Police Department on October 10th.
