Sentencing Sends A Message About Fighting With Police Officers
24 October 2019 News
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney is hoping the sentencing of a 33-year-old Portage man who got into a fight with a Sheriff’s deputy and Fond du Lac Police officer will send a message. Both officers received facial injuries and the police officer also suffered a broken elbow during the traffic stop of Troy Kratz. He had been involved in a battery incident earlier that day in August of 2018. Kratz was sentenced this week to 6 years in prison and 6 years of extended supervision and was ordered to pay $55,000 in restitution. Toney hopes they are conveying a message about the consequences of fighting with officers. “We’re hoping that this will send the appropriate message not only to this defendant but others that are planning to get into police officers that serious consequences occur when that happens.” Toney says with Kratz’s prior record and the violent nature of the offenses he could have received more prison time.
