Jury Trial Scheduled For Oshkosh Man Accused Of Shaking Infant Son To Death 

The 28-year-old Oshkosh man suspected of shaking his 7-week-old son to death last November is scheduled for a five-day jury trial next February. Cory Lyons was in a Winnebago County courtroom Wednesday for a hearing. The trial is scheduled to begin February 10th. Also during the hearing a motion to suppress statements Lyons made to police was denied.  According to the criminal complaint the child’s mother left him with Lyons on November 29th when she went to work. Lyons told authorities he became frustrated with the baby’s crying and shook the infant five or six times not supporting his head while he was doing it. An autopsy found the child died of brain injuries. 

Oshkosh Man Arrested For Seventh OWI

A 54-year-old Oshkosh man was arrested during a traffic stop in Waushara County Wednesday afternoon for his 7th operating while under the influence offense. The State Patrol Inspector pulled Jesse Bosquez over on State Highway 73 at State Highway 21 for failing to properly secure a load in his pickup truck.  The inspector could smell marijuana coming from the passenger compartment and Bosquez showed signs of impairment. He was arrested after a field sobriety test for his 7th OWI, marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.

Traffic Signal Problem At Green Lake County Intersection 

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say a problem with the traffic signals at the intersection of State Highways 23 and 49 and County Highway A will be fixed over the next month. They have been periodically malfunctioning and staff from the state’s Department of Transportation has been fixing it as it occurs. That will continue until a long term solution is reached over the next month. When the lights aren’t working properly red flashing lights will be used at the intersection and drivers should treat it like a four-way stop. The intersection is just north of Green Lake.

Waupun Common Council Reviews City Budget

The Common Council in Waupun reviewed the proposed 2020 city budget this week. The $5.9 million budget calls for a $3.1 million tax levy, which is an increase of $100,000 in the levy from the current year. Since Waupun falls along two county lines the mill rate for those living on the Fond du Lac County side will increase by 35 cents to $7.69 per thousand dollars of value on a property and increase by 15 cents to $7.59 for Dodge County residents. The Council is expected to approve the final budget on November 12th.

Public Hearing Scheduled For Waushara County Budget

A public hearing will be held on the proposed 2020 Waushara County Budget on Tuesday, November 5th at 7 pm. It will be in the County Board Room of the Waushara County Courthouse in Wautoma. The board is considering a $44.3 million budget with a tax levy of $18.1 million a nearly 5 percent increase in the levy. The county has nearly $1 million in additional revenue available in 2020. The proposed tax rate will remain the same at $6.84 per thousand dollars of value on a property.

Bridge Inspections Scheduled Next Week

Drivers can expect flagging operations during short periods of time as bridges are inspected in Green Lake, Marquette, and Waupaca counties next week. Monday the State Highway 156 Bridges over the Wolf and Embarrass Rivers will be inspected. Tuesday the State Highway 44 Bridge over Grand River in Kingston in Green Lake County and the State Highway 22 Bridge over Fox River in Montello in Marquette County will be inspected. Inspections will start at 9 am both days.

Ripon Rotary And Ripon Culvers Team Up To End Polio Now

The Ripon Rotary Club is hoping you will help out their End Polio Now effort by eating dinner at the Culver’s Restaurant in Ripon tonight. From 5 to 8 pm 10 percent of sales on food and drink at the restaurant will benefit that effort. Connor Hanson chairs the club’s End Polio Now campaign. He says today is World Polio Day and Rotary Clubs will be doing fundraising efforts and awareness campaigns. “So it is a whole world event where they will be streaming services and things like that so it’s a big deal.” Polio attacks the nervous system crippling people and can affect breathing.
