Beaver Dam Woman Charged With Reckless Homicide

Prosecutors in Dodge County have charged a 27-year-old Beaver Dam woman with reckless homicide in the death of her two-year-old son. An autopsy found methadone in his system. Last February 23rd Amanda Trost found her son not breathing and performed CPR until first responders arrived. She denied giving the drug to him and told investigators she had spilled some and used a paper towel to clean up, which she then threw in the trash. She’s free on a signature bond and has a preliminary hearing on December 5th.

Youth Banned From Using Vaping Devices In Beaver Dam

The City of Beaver Dam is one of the latest to take action to reducing vaping by youth. The Common Council this week approved a change to a city ordinance that will prohibit those under 18 from using electronic nicotine delivery devices. The ordinance prohibits the possession of tobacco products like cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco. The council took its vote after hearing from a county public health nurse about how vaping could cause severe lung damage or chemical pneumonia.

Computer Scam

Markesan Police are cautioning residents about a scam in which the caller or computer pop-up tells you they are with Microsoft or Apple and need access to your computer because you’ve been hacked. They advise unplugging your computer if there is such a pop-up and taking it to a computer service. If it is a phone call hang up. Police say the scammers might sound legit, but they are trying to scam you out of money or personal information.

FDL GOP Chair On Impeachment Timing

The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County says impeachment proceedings against President Trump would be poorly timed. Rohn Bishop says whether you believe accusations that Trump made a phone call urging the president of the Ukraine to damage political rival Joe Biden’s campaign efforts or not, an impeachment proceeding would run into next year’s presidential campaign. “If people have a problem with how he is doing his job or how he handled that phone call the election is less than 13 months away and we can just let the voters decide.” Bishop says if an impeachment trial began in the Senate toward the end of the year it would run into the presidential campaign next year. He says it would be a media circus and unprecedented.

Winter Coat Collection Program Successful

The Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area has a good collection of winter coats for kids in need. Ashley Bartol of the Club says people donated generously during their two week drive. “We collected tons of coats that we then if they are new we just kind of hang them up, but if they are used we wash them and dry them and then get them ready to distribute in the beginning of November.” They still will take donations of winter coats, but they will have to be dropped off at the Club in Berlin. The program works on a referral basis and distribution will be on Tuesday, November 5th at the club.

Password Strength Important In Cybersecurity

An official with Ready Wisconsin says a good password can help prevent identity thieves from hacking into your computer devices. Andrew Beckett points out that we use a lot of digital devices these days that hackers can use clues from to try and figure out your passwords. For that reason you need passwords of good strength and make sure you don’t use the same password for all or multiple accounts. “You may try variations of it with slight variations that are specific to that platform, but you want to make sure that an identical password is not being used across platforms because that can make it easy for someone to access not just one account but multiple accounts if they are able to gain access to just one.” He recommends using passwords that use numbers, letters and symbols. October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
