Update On Grand Chute Death Investigation
Grand Chute Police have released the names of the two people found dead in a home in the 2000 block of West Roberts Avenue Monday. They were 40-year-old Koua Xiong and 36-year-old Se Chang-Xiong who were found inside a locked bedroom of gunshot wounds. A firearm was found nearby. Officers were dispatched to the home for a welfare check shortly before 6 am. Police are still investigating the reason behind the deaths. No new information is expected this week.
Name Released Of Sheboygan Boy Hit And Killed By Garbage Truck
Police in Sheboygan have identified a nine-year-old boy killed Wednesday when he was hit by a city garbage truck while bicycling to school. A preliminary investigation reveals the truck was heading north on 14th Street and was turning east on Center Street when it struck Roman Martin. The driver of the truck is a 35-year-old man who has been with the city for two years. A worker on the back of the truck is a 55-year-old man who has been with the city for 21 years. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the accident.
Beaver Dam Man Wanted On Escape Charge
An arrest warrant has been issued for a 20-year-old Beaver Dam man who failed to return to the Dodge County Jail from a pre-approved visit to an emergency room for stomach pain. A felony escape charge was filed and the warrant was issued for Brayden Kohlstedt Wednesday. He failed to return from the Beaver Dam Community Hospital Tuesday. An emergency contact told investigators he was picked up at the hospital by a relative after he was discharged that evening. Kohlstedt was serving a four-month sentence for battery.
Three Ballweg Bills Passed By State Senate
Three bills authored by State Representative Joan Ballweg were passed by the State Senate this week. One bill will allow two Tax Incremental Districts for the Village of Lake Delton to expand. That bill went before the State Assembly for approval yesterday. Another bill prohibits manufacturers from surcharging vehicles sold. It will allow fairer compensation to auto dealers for warranty work performed on a vehicle. A third bill authored by the state lawmaker from Markesan clarifies the due dates on property taxes.
Suicide Prevention Efforts
The Assembly Speaker’s Task Force on Suicide Prevention came up with some proposals that also depend on others to watch out for those who might be considering suicide. State Representative Joan Ballweg chaired the task force. She says that included creating a division in the state’s Department of Health Services to watch for funding opportunities for suicide prevention. “To have a particular department in the Department of Health Services that will be tasked with coordinating resources and work on grant opportunities.” There was also a proposal for a gun shop project that would train those working in gun shots to recognize those who might be considering harming themselves or others. Shops would also provide guns safes where families could have weapons locked up. The state lawmaker from Markesan would also like to see more funding made available for trigger locks and gun safes.
Area Counties Affected By Deer Baiting And Feeding Bans
The state Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters and wildlife observers planning fall and winter outdoor activities that deer baiting and feeding is prohibited in 52 counties. The bans are a tool to limit the spread of disease and specifically chronic wasting disease. Bans on baiting and feeding are established within a geographic range of any confirmed CWD case and impact the entire county. Among the area counties included in the ban are; Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waupaca, and Waushara counties.
Ripon Senior Activity Center Board Of Directors Election
Those attending the pot luck dinner at the Ripon Senior Activity Center today can also vote on Center Board of Directors candidates. Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says they seven board members that serve two year terms and three seats are up for election. “So we have three slots open this year to people who want to be on the board.” To serve on the board you have to be 55-years-old or older and most of the board members have to live within the Ripon Area School District boundaries. Only one person per household is permitted to serve on the board at one time. The pot luck begins at noon, but the center is open from 9 am to 3 pm.
Fleet Farm Toyland Opens Saturday
Fleet Farm stores across the area will celebrate their Christmas tradition of opening their Toyland this Saturday. Fleet Farm created Toyland in 1957 as a way for families to get a jump start on their holiday shopping. The tradition started with a few shelves and has grown to feature more than 2,600 toys and gifts. Toyland at each store opens at 6 am Saturday morning. Among the Fleet Farm locations in Wisconsin are stores in Appleton, Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Plymouth, and Waupaca.
