The Packers’ defense is off to a great start. The unit already has 11 takeaways through 5 games after just 15 all of last year. That includes three interceptions against the Cowboys Dak Prescott. The defense has also given up big chunks of yardage, almost 600 against Dallas. Coach Matt LaFleur says with an aggressive defense, you sometimes give up a lot of yards, but good things also happen.
The Packers host the Lions Monday night. Green Bay, 4-1, is looking to go 3-0 in the NFC North after earlier wins over the Bears and Vikings. Detroit is 2-1-1 and coming off a bye week.
Meanwhile, left tackle David Bahktiari talked about running back Aaron Jones after his big performance against Dallas. He spoke to Jones afterwards and told the third –year running back, that he expects to see that output in every game from now on. Jones rushed for over 100 yards and scored four touchdowns Sunday and for that performance was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It’s his first such award.
The Green Bay Packers signed TE Ethan Wolf to the practice squad. The transaction
was announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst. Wolf, a 6-foot-6, 252-pound first-year player, spent some time on Green Bay’s practice squad last season. He was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Tennessee on May 11, 2018, and was released on Sept. 1, 2018. Wolf spent this past training camp with the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in 50 games with 47 starts over four seasons at UT, recording 91 receptions for 998 yards (11.0 avg.) and seven touchdowns. Wolf finished his career ranked No. 2 all-time in program history for receptions by a tight end and No. 3 for receiving yards by a tight end. He will wear No. 82 for the Packers.
The baseball playoffs continued Tuesday as Tampa Bay defeated Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros, 4-1, to force a deciding fifth game in their American League Divisional series. Game five is tomorrow night in Houston and the winner plays the Yankees in the ALCS.
In the National League today, St. Louis plays at Atlanta with that series tied at two games. In the other divisional series, Washington plays at Los Angeles with that series also knotted at two games. The two winners meet in the NLCS.
