5 September 2019 Sports

The NFL regular season kicks off tonight in Chicago as the Packers play the Bears.  It will be their 199th meeting in the league’s oldest rivalry.  The Packers lead in the series 97-95 with six ties, which include two playoff games.  It marks the fourth time in team history the Packers have opened at Chicago.  New head coach Matt LaFleur has a new offense for Aaron Rodgers and company.  Rodgers and most of the offense did not play during the preseason.  Green Bay is hoping the running game is effective against an outstanding Bears defense led by Khlail Mack. He was a one-man crew against the Packers in two games last season.  The Packers have high hopes their own defense will improve under second-year defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Tonight’s pregame starts at 5:00 with the kickoff at 7:20 and the game will be heard on FM102.3, The Bug.

Seatless tickets are now available for some Green Bay Packers home games. The team announced Wednesday it has a limited amount of standing-room-only tickets for the following games:

  • Sunday, Sept. 22, Packers vs Denver Broncos at noon
  • Thursday, Sept. 26, Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles at 7:20 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 20, Packers vs Oakland Raiders at noon
  • Sunday, Nov. 10, Packers vs Carolina Panthers at noon
  • Sunday, Dec. 15, Packers vs Chicago Bears at noon

The tickets, priced at $85 each, plus fees, allow fans to stand in the area behind sections 432s to 442s, on the fourth level of Lambeau Field’s South End. Those who purchase these tickets may also stand in the viewing platforms on either side of the sections.  Tickets are sold online, with a limit of eight tickets per household. Standing-room-only tickets cannot be resold on NFL Ticket Exchange.

The Brewers host the Cubs tonight in the first game of a huge four-game series at Miller Park.  Milwaukee trails Central Division leader St. Louis by 6 ½ games and the Cubs by 2 ½.  The Brewers, who took two out of three games last weekend at Wrigley Field, will send right-hander Chase Anderson, who’s 6-4 against Cubs lefthander Jose Quintana, who’s 12-8.  First pitch is at 6:10 and game will be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS.

In the N.L Central Wednesday, the Cardinals lost at home to the Giants 9-8, the Reds beat the Phillies 8-5 and the Pirates edged the Marlins 6-5.
