Charges have been filed against a 30-year-old Waupun man who was allegedly drunk and combative when police responded to his home last Saturday for a call about an injured elderly woman. The injured woman was Gregory Spittel’s grandmother who was in the basement and suffered serious head injuries. Spittel made his initial appearance in Fond du Lac County court Wednesday. He was charged in two separate cases, but none of the charges were connected to the 75-year-old Mayville woman’s injuries. Bond was set at $21,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 6th. According to the criminal complaint Spittel was dressed only in his underwear and was screaming when officers arrived. During the incident he allegedly threw a pillow and a whiskey bottle at a female officer threatening her and urging police to shoot him. A taser was used to bring him under control. His grandmother was flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center where she remains hospitalized. Spittel was also upset during the incident because of a previous drug arrest that occurred at his home during which officers seized crack cocaine from him. That happened on May 26th. Spittel injured himself during that incident, which prompted an ambulance call. When officers arrived Spittel’s grandmother was present and told them he’s “using again.”
