Tornado Anniversary
Wednesday was the one-year anniversary of 11 tornadoes hitting Fond du Lac County in the same day. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage was done, but remarkably no one was killed or injured. Afterwards it was a case of neighbor helping neighbor. As she toured the county in the days following the storms County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says she heard story after story about that happening. “It really was so neat to see the community come together while not a surprise at all I know how great Fond du Lac County is when put to the test. It was very impressive to see.” Hicken says the tornadoes ranged from F-zero to F-2’s in scale, which she notes can injure and kill people in addition to the damage they can cause.
Ripon Common Council Notes
The Ripon Common Council this week amended its noxious weed ordinance to include fines for second or subsequent offenses. A repeat offense would be any that occurred over a three year period. A first repeat offense would result in a $125 fine plus costs, a second repeat offense $250, and a third repeat offense would be a $400 fine. The city is trying to reduce the number of repeat offenses of the ordinance. The Council also approved a resolution activating Team Ripon a team of bow hunters allowed to hunt urban deer within city limits. The team would be active September 14th through February 28th. Over the past 12 years the team has harvested 165 deer, including three last year.

Home Care Program
The assistant director for Assisted Living and Home Care for the Markesan Resident Home says one of their programs allows people to stay in their homes longer. Sarah Peterson says Always There Home Care is not a skilled nursing service, but provides people coming off major surgery or that need help around the home because of their health to continue living at home. She says they can help with preparing meals, some light housework, medication assistance, getting people to doctors’ appointment, or even getting them in and out of the shower. She says one of the benefits is the companionship their people offer the home’s resident who may not be receiving a lot of visitors. “One of our main things of what they do is taking care of somebody inside and out so when you consider companionship that is just a little nugget in the big piece of life.” To learn more about the program call Always There Home Care at 920-260-1246 or the Markesan Resident Home at 920-398-2751.
