Oshkosh Couple Falls From Top Of Winnebago County Quarry

Authorities in Winnebago County have released the names of the Oshkosh couple who fell to the bottom of quarry Monday afternoon. Thirty-one-year-old Alissa Bartels was killed in the 40 to 50 foot drop and her husband 31-year-old Lucas Bartels was seriously injured. He was flown to a hospital. His condition is unknown. The two had been visiting a business in the Town of Poygan when they left on foot. Sheriff’s officials believe they were unfamiliar with the terrain. A friend found them at the bottom of the quarry.

A 31-year-old Oshkosh woman died and her 31-year-old husband was seriously injured when they fell from the top of quarry in Winnebago County’s Town of Poygan Monday afternoon. They had been visiting a nearby business and left on foot ending up at the top of a ridge at the quarry. A friend found them at the bottom of the quarry, about a 50 foot drop. Nearby people tried to help the couple. The woman died at the scene and her husband was flown by ThedaStar helicopter to a hospital. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials believe the couple was unfamiliar with the terrain of the area. The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Winneconne-Poygan Fire Department First Responders, Oshkosh Fire Department EMS, Omro and Winneconne Police Departments, and the County Coroner’s Office.  Responders and deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3 pm.
