Berlin Man Sentenced For Standoff Incident

The 28-year-old Berlin man involved in a standoff incident with Berlin Police at a Kwik Trip Store this past May has been sentenced to two years of probation and 90 days in jail. Justin Burkhardt is being given credit for the 86 days he’s already spent in the Green Lake County Jail. Tuesday he pled no contest to an amended charge of negligent operation or handling of a firearm and operating a firearm while intoxicated. A third charge of obstruction was read into the record and dismissed. During the May 19th incident police responded after getting several calls about a man who was at the Kwik Trip was intoxicated and was waving a gun around. Officers were involved in a brief standoff, which ended peacefully and without injury. Burkhardt was originally charged with 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety and the other two charges.
