Mike Minor struck out 11 in eight innings, and the Texas Rangers beat Jordan Lyles and the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep. Minor (11-6) allowed four hits and walked one. José Leclerc finished the four-hitter for his eighth save, securing Texas’ second win in in six games. Milwaukee star Christian Yelich missed his fifth straight start due to back stiffness, but the reigning NL MVP batted for reliever Alex Claudio in the eighth. The sold-out crowd of 44,411 greeted Yelich with M-V-P chants but the slugger struck out on a 92-mph offering from Minor. Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s sacrifice fly off Lyles in the seventh accounted for the game’s only run. The fly ball to right drove in Willie Calhoun, who reached on a leadoff walk and advanced to third on Rougned Odor’s double. Lyles (7-8) allowed three hits, struck out nine and walked four. It was his first loss in three starts since he was acquired in a trade with Pittsburgh last month. Ryan Braun had two hits for Milwaukee, which had won five in a row. Following an off day, Milwaukee hosts Minnesota on Tuesday. Right-hander Chase Anderson (5-2, 3.70 ERA) is scheduled to get the ball for the Brewers. Anderson has failed to earn a decision in each of his last four starts.

In its first year in the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GBWA), the Wisconsin GLO completed a perfect season capped off with a championship win. The GLO (14-0) went down to the wire before edging the Flint Monarchs (7-7) in an 80-78 thriller at Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh. Former Wisconsin Badgers standout Taylor Wurtz’s three pointer gave the GLO a four-point lead with 28.6 seconds remaining. With eight seconds left, Flint Monarchs guard Sparkle Taylor answered right back with a three of her own to bring the 2-time GWBA champions back within one point. Flint fouled GLO guard Jolene Anderson who then made one of two free throws. The Monarchs got the rebound on the second missed free throw but Wurtz stole the ball to end the game. Wurtz led the GLO with 18 points while forward Jessica Lindstrom was named GWBA Finals MVP after finishing with 11 points, 15 rebounds and three steals.
