Keston Hiura notched his first career multihomer game in the Majors off  right-hander Trevor Williams to lead the Brewers to an 8-3 win and a three-game sweep over the Pirates in Pittsburgh las night.  Hiura turned in an opposite-field blast in his first at-bat to score the first two runs of the game, then launched a solo homer to center field in the fifth, raising his season total to 13. Hiura also hit a double in the third inning and was hit by a pitch in the sixth, working his way out of a 4-for-28 skid in the first eight games of this nine-game road trip with a 3-for-4 day.  The Brewers top rookie prospect won the Rookie of the Month award for July.  A couple of other new Brewers shined on Wednesday, too. Trent Grisham showed his outfield range by making a spectacular play to rob Jacob Stallings of extra bases in the fifth that manager  Counsell called “a huge play.”  Also, Devin Williams pitched a scoreless sixth inning in his Major League debut in front of his mother, sisters and friends, though he was charged with two unearned runs in the seventh. He struck out the first batter he faced — NL batting title contender Bryan Reynolds — and reached 98 mph on the radar gun.  Starter Dew Pomeranz went the first three innings, giving up one earned run on one hit  while striking out three and walking one. Junior Guerra pitched the 4th and 5th innings and recorded the victory to up his record to 5-3.  Williams took the loss and drops to 4-5.  The Brewers are off today before opening a weekend home series Friday night against the Rangers.  In other Brewers news, Christian Yelich sat out a third straight game because of back tightness.  Manager Craig Counsel is hoping he’ll be ready to get back in the lineup against Texas.

Elsewhere in the N.L. Central on Wednesday, the Cubs pounded the A’s 10-1 and the Dodgers edged St. Louis 2-1. The Cubs lead the Brewers by 3 games and the Cardinals by 3 ½.

The Packers kick off the preseason tonight at  home against the Houston Texans.  The two teams held  joint practices on Monday and Tuesday.  The starters aren’t expected to see much action tonight and if Aaron Rodgers does play, it will be very limited.  Kickoff  is at 7:00.  You can hear all the action, beginning with the pregame at 5:00 on 102.3, The Bug.

Tonight is the Midwest Shrine Game. Former patient Janine Brass will perform the national anthem.  Before the anthem, Packers and WPS Health Solutions will recognize American Legion Members through Operation Fan Mail.  Fans will receive magnetic schedules at stadium gates.  ‘Play Football Month’ is also being honored with four teams from the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Area Youth Football Program.  This month is a national campaign throughout the NFL preseason.  Halftime involves the High School Quarterback Challenge featuring Milwaukee Riverside and Milwaukee King High Schools. Fans are reminded no bags or purses are allowed inside Lambeau Field, unless they are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC.  Bags can’t be larger than 12″ by 6″ by 12.”  Stadium seats and pads that don’t have pockets or zippers and are 18″ wide or smaller are allowed.  Parking lots will open at 3 p.m. followed by the stadium gates at 5 p.m.  The Atrium will open at 1 p.m. to ticketed guests at the American Family Insurance Gate.
