Markesan Man Killed In Green Lake County Crash

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the 29-year-old Markesan man killed in a crash over the weekend on County Highway K in the Town of Green Lake. Kevin Steinmetz was heading west at a high rate of speed when he went off the road west of Lakeview Road into a group of trees. He died at the scene of the crash. Investigators believe the accident occurred about 11:30 Saturday night, but it wasn’t reported until 9 am Sunday morning because the vehicle was obscured by the tree line. It was the county’s third traffic fatality of year, there were none in the two previous years.

A 29-year-old Markesan man was killed over the weekend when his vehicle went off County Highway K in Green Lake County’s Town of Green Lake at a high rate of speed and struck a group of trees. Sheriff’s officials believe the accident happened about 11:30 Saturday night, but due to where the vehicle ended up it was obstructed from view from the roadway. The Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call about the crash about 9 am Sunday morning. A path had to be cut through the trees to the vehicle. The driver had died at the scene. The Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office are investigating the accident, and the State Patrol is reconstructing it. The crash happened west of Lakeview Road. Green Lake County has had three traffic fatalities this year. It had none in the previous two years and only one in 2016.
